  • Dade Gets Shout-Out in Milk

In movies, Miami gets a bad rap. It's always cocaine smuggler this, and mafia murderer that. It's like come on, Hollywood. You're making us look bad.  So when Riptide heard Dade County got a cameo in Gus Van Sant's new film Milk, we bought some trans fat-soaked popcorn and got comfortable next to two cute, twinkish, super-excited gay dudes this past weekend. Fleeing felons and convicted drug traffickers need not apply for the program though, as those are

  • Beach High Rock Ensemble Rock School Auditorium

Rock and roll will never die. Here's a video of the Miami Beach Senior High School Rock Ensemble playing "Black Water" by The Doobie Brothers at a recently uploaded performance in the high school's auditorium. Good to know that with all the talk about budget cuts and elimination of arts programs and this and that and that type of stuff that at least somewhere in Dade the youth are being encouraged to rock out.Does this type of stuff go on all over the county? Leave a comment if you know.

Which leaves the main offices of the local affiliates of the big four networks equally divided between Broward and Dade. They're even proudly showing off photos of their shiny new studio online. image via johnwinkelman's flickrHey eaters, guess what, while you're off in the dining room eating spaghetti at your favorite restaurant there's a whole universe of drama spinning in the kitchen. An entire Greek tragedy may have played out over your plate as it went out. One great tradition is the kitchen prank. Short Order's been creeping past dumpsters to the back of the house and asking the staff of places all over Miami for their stories. Here's one from a cook in central Dade:This cook pran

  • Taking the Temperature of The Heat: Luke Warm at Best

Is this the last year in Dade for Dwyane Wade? Can Michael Beasley overcome his Twitter and TMZ problems to prove that he deserves that starting slot? These are the questions on the minds of Heat fans on the day of the season opener. Not, noticeably, "are we going to win another championship?
