Be prepared to wait for a table if you head to Islas Canarias Bakery on a Saturday or Sunday morning. Heck, who are we kidding? Even on a weekday afternoon, this place is bustling. Different from the two Islas Canarias Restaurant locations, the bakery serves only a sample from the restaurant's regular menu. You won't care that there are only a handful of full-sized entrees to choose from, because you'll be too busy munching on made-to-order beef or chicken empanadas ($1.68), ham croquetas (85 cents), or chocolate eclairs ($1.75). You won't go wrong with a sandwich either - order a popular and delicious media noche ($4.99) or pan con bistec ($5.99) if you desire something more substantial. The ambiance is nice and servers are usually friendly, if a little hurried. As far as bakeries go, this one is a bit overpriced, but for a breakfast or lunch spot with a touch of class, Islas Canarias Bakery does a fine job.
