Sad news: Universal Studios Orlando recently retired the Jaws ride. Sure, it wasn’t exactly the most thrilling attraction at the park, but it was still a classic. Cruising around Amity while waiting for that great white shark to surface was suspenseful — or lame. You can’t sail the fake seas there anymore, but you can chow down on their delicious bounty here, thanks to the eighth annual Deering Seafood Festival this Sunday. The event is known as a seafood emporium, plus it offers rock climbing, chefs’ recipes, and pontoon boat rides — an authentic taste of the ocean. The festival will host local celebrity chefs such as Giorgio Rapicavoli, Miami’s first winner on Food Network’s Chopped (see page *TK for a review of his new Eating House pop-up restaurant). There will also be live music and activities such as nature hikes. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Deering Estate at Cutler (16701 SW 72nd Ave., Miami). Tickets are $15 for adults in advance online or $25 at the gate, $5 for children ages 4 to 14, and free for children under 4 and Deering Estate Foundation members. Tickets include park entrance and all activities, except food, drinks, rock climbing, and pontoon boat rides.
Sun., March 25, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., 2012
