The Exxxotica convention, models playing volleyball on the beach, and booty-shaking fiestas at downtown hotspots are all well and good for the grown and sexy. But adults-only fun isn’t enough. There are lots of cool parents in this town who spend their weekends looking for family-friendly events. Well, this weekend you’re in luck. There are two cool, kid-friendly, mother-approved things to do this weekend. First stop, the eighth annual Art of Storytelling International Festival Day, held at the Miami-Dade main library. Storytellers from around the world will highlight Colombian culture, and a cast of characters including Pippi Longstocking, Mother Goose, and Clifford the Big Red Dog will mingle and take photos with your bambinos. Besides that, there’ll be magicians, dancers, stilt-walkers, puppet theater, and a traditional Caribbean Carnival parade from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call 305-375-2665.
At the MoCA Plaza (770 NE 12th St., North Miami), a charity called Heroes Unite will put on a show that proves its credo: Arts Educate. It takes place from 4 to 5 p.m., and admission is free. Visit www.heroesunite.org.
