Michael’s Genuine food cart is hitting the Design District again this weekend. This month the menu has a decidedly Asian flair to it. James Beard Award winner and Michael’s Genuine proprietor Michael Schwartz will be serving banh mi with house-cured pork, pickled vegetables, torn herbs and sambal aioli.
For the uninitiated, Banh mi are Vietnamese style sandwiches made with baguettes, meat and pickled vegetables. Sidewalk diners can wash it all down with homemade ginger lemongrass soda or pineapple jalapeno sorbet. There will also be star anise cookies. Prices range from $2 to $6.
The cart will be parked in front of Brownes & Co. at 87 NE 40th Street starting at 8 p.m. on Saturday night. Schwartz and his crew will be there until the chow runs out, which happens rapidly.
