We were mildly surprised the first time Miami made Amazon’s “Most Well Read Cities” list, but year after year we found ourselves included again. This year we’ve improved our position and moved up the county’s third “most well read city.” The city was ranked sixth last year.
Yes, Miami sits only behind Alexandria, Virginia (a D.C. suburb), and Knoxville, Tennessee (home to University of Tennessee), on the list. Cambridge, Massachusetts, home of Harvard, University, actually sits one below the 305 at fourth place.
Of course, the rankings are merely based on sales data. Cities are ranked according to how many books, magazines, newspapers and Kindle titles are purchased in the city per capita. Only cities with a population over 100,000 are included.
Though, according to The Miami Herald, Amazon says the two most popular book genres purchased in Miami are romance and self-help books.

Fifty Shades of Grey was actually Miami’s most popular book, but that was true for Alexandria and Knoxville as well.
