All you hard-drinking, never-novel-finishing people out there, listen up. Sometimes we all need a jump start. Ours over here at the Miami New Times is that cruel Muse we call “Deadline”, whose red tail is forever smacking us in the back of the head just when we’re getting into a really good Youtube video.
For novelists and poets though, a writer’s conference can be just the thing to get those fingers back on the keys. Problem is most of them are damned expensive. Solution: stay local and take advantage of the soon-to-be-expiring offer from the organizers of the FIU/Hutchinson Island Writer’s Conference, held at the Marriott Hutchinson Island Beach Resort this coming October 22-24.
From now until June 1, registration is only $300, with a reduced $129 room rate for conference participants (Code: FIUFIUA). Call FIU at 305-919-5857 for details or go to their website.
Writers leading workshops and reading manuscripts include, Matthew Sharpe, Madeleine Blais, Debra Dean, Les Standiford, Jill Bialosky, Dan Wakefield, Denise Duhamel, John Dufresne, Lynne Barrett, and Campbell McGrath.
We’re thankful for you. Are you thankful for us?
We feel thankful for our staff and for the privilege of fulfilling our mission to be an unparalleled source of information and insight in Miami. We’re aiming to raise $30,000 by December 31, so we can continue covering what matters most to this community.
Help us continue giving back to Miami.
