PETA would probably make Jay Phillips out to be a villain for his joke about the harmonic sound of a dog being kicked, but we just like to call him funny. His canine karate work aside, Phillips is the type of comedian who uses his face and body for a physical comedy even some of the most famous funny people can’t resist putting in their flicks. Ask former costars Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, and Amy Poehler. No, really, ask them for us. He was in Semi-Pro and Baby Mama with them, and we’d really like to know what they think about him. Thanks.

Or to make things easy on yourself (and avoid a stalking charge and headline on TMZ), hit the Miami Improv for Phillips’s three-day run. He does something called Crack ’Em Up Thursdays at the West Coast’s famed house of laughs, the Comedy Store, but he’s jetting into the 305 to crack you up this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. We should consider ourselves lucky that the slight-mustached comic is leaving the sun and sand in L.A. for, er, the sun and sand of Miami. Either way, the Baltimore native is bringing nothing but the funny. Friday’s showtimes are 8:30 and 10:45 p.m. Tickets cost $16.05.
