Though no one’s going to accuse all food trucks of serving seriously health-conscious eats, many owners make an effort to use fresh and local ingredients.
Jefe’s Original Fish Taco and Burger owner Jack Garabedian, for instance, goes down to the Redland during the growing season to pick his own vegetables, and gastroPod‘s Jeremiah Bullfrog changes his menu to utilize seasonal ingredients.
On Saturday, food truck chefs will take their use of fresh produce to a new level at the Homestead Al Gusto festival at Losner Park in Homestead.
Food truck chefs will be given a basket of local produce direct
from farms in the Redland and asked to make a dish utilizing
those ingredients in their trucks usual style of cooking. Chefs will
not know what’s in the mystery basket until the competition starts. The one who makes the best dish wins.

Mojo on the Go,
Monster Burgers,
Mucho Nacho,
Palate Party,
The Pork Shop,
The Real Chill, and Slow Food Truck.
The Homestead Al Gusto Festival runs from 6 – 11 p.m. in Homestead’s
historic Main Street section. Besides the truck challenge, local
farmers will sell their wares and there’s entertainment for both kids
