Further proving that a still embarrassing number of my fellow gringos assume latin cuisine begin and ends with tacos, Fox & Friends host Brian Kilmeade asked meteorologist Maria Molina to host a segment celebrating “Taco Day” because she “grew up on them.”

Molina it turns out was born in Nicaragua and grew up in South Florida. Tacos are a Mexican dish.

Raw Story captured the awkward moment:

Co-anchor Steve Doocey however quickly tries to come to the rescue by offering that Nicaraguan born Molina is from “Colombia.” Which, well, …at least he knows that not everyone who is Hispanic is automatically Mexican.

Even after he’s corrected Kilmeade still pesters Molina for tips as to how assemble his taco.
