Although choreographer Alexey Taran’s background is in ballet — the realm of tutus and swans — his imagery is more akin to the grotesque atmosphere of a Joel-Peter Witkin photograph. For this Friday’s Asesinos por una Noche (Assassins for a Night), Taran, filmmaker Carla Forte, and the Bistoury Physical Theater Company will unravel power structures through dance, theater, music, and projections in a one-night-only performance.
Taran calls it “a beautiful way to see our monsters.” Sounds dark, but the night won’t be all pain and suffering. Asesinos por una Noche is actually about breaking power structures as a means to achieve freedom and happiness. The performance, based on a play by Cuban playwright José Triana, is presented as part of FUNDarte’s multimedia performance series, Miami On Stage 2011. See it at Miami-Dade County Auditorium’s On.Stage BlackBox Theatre.

Fri., May 6, 8 p.m., 2011
