Most people load their Publix groceries into the car, but in Florida, the grocery cart is the car.

In a video that's now gone viral faster than a BOGO on Pub Subs, a giant motorized Publix shopping cart was seen cruising down a Boca Raton highway as if it had somewhere to be (we're guessing the deli section before the Pub sub rush). The footage, originally captured by TikTok user Cristhy Avila and posted by Fox 13 Tampa Bay on TikTok, shows the massive cart casually being driven down the highway by an unknown man in a green shirt as if it were a regular, everyday convertible.

Naturally, Floridians reacted the only way they knew how — by making the video even funnier. The comments on TikTok and Instagram are pure gold. One person imagined the horror of filing the insurance claim: "Insurance company: You hit a what?" Another took it personally: "This is why my damn insurance is so high, bruh." And one user spoke for all Publix-loving moms across the state: "My mother's dream car."

Who's the Mystery Man Driving the Publix Cart?

While it's not totally clear who was behind the wheel (or handle?) of the giant Publix cart, the oversized cart appears to be a parade float or promo vehicle gone rogue — or maybe the guy is just that die-hard of a fan. This would make sense, given the fact that Floridians are truly obsessed with Publix.

Plus, this isn't that unusual for the Sunshine State. Florida has a long and colorful history of vehicular absurdity — gators in trucks, bathtubs on wheels, even the occasional lawn mower DUI — but a 10-foot Publix cart cruising at 40 miles per hour down a major road might be the most Florida thing to happen this week. (And yes, it's still only Tuesday.)

Despite these great theories, upon further investigation, the enlarged shopping cart has a green sign that states, "Now Open at The Greens," which can only mean one thing: this is some genius marketing by Publix itself. Publix at The Greens in Boca Raton just opened on Thursday, May 1. You sneaky, beloved grocery store, you.

Publix has not yet announced whether this cart will be available for in-store pickup or whether it qualifies for delivery through Instacart (just kidding).

However, if you're driving through Boca and see a chrome basket in your rearview mirror, maybe just let it pass. You never know what aisle it's headed to next.

Only in Florida.
