Miami Establishments Offering Freebies and Discounts to Federal Employees During the Shutdown UPDATED

With the government shut down since late December, federal employees are feeling the effects. Workers are either furloughed or gathering zero-dollar paychecks at jobs deemed essential to the welfare of the country.

During this time, several Miami-area establishments are offering discounts or freebies to federal employees with valid IDs.

Since offers can change, it's best to check with each establishment before heading out.

Arson. Now through next week, Arson is offering two of its dishes on the house — the spicy provoletta and the greens and fruits salad with honey mustard dressing — to anyone with a valid federal ID. 104 NE Second Ave., Miami; 786-717-6711; arsonmiami.com.

HistoryMiami Museum. The museum is offering federal employees and a guest complimentary admission to the museum for the remainder of the government shutdown. 101 W. Flagler St., Miami; 305-375-1492; historymiami.org.

Inscape Beauty Salon. This Davie salon is offering a free shampoo and haircut to federal employees who present a valid ID. The offer is good on Tuesday only from January 29 to February 26.  5810 S University Dr #114, Davie; 954-212-9806; inscapebeautysalon.com.

Kings Dining & Entertainment Doral. Federal employees with a government ID and their immediate family members can enjoy two free bowling games Monday through Thursday from opening till 6 p.m. Kids bowl free with the purchase of a kids' meal. 3450 NW 83rd Ave., Doral; 844-494-9400; kings-de.com.

Maya's Grill. Local government workers and their families can get free pizza and salad during the government shutdown. “No matter which side you’re on, no one should have to go without pay to satisfy political egos,” co-owner Alejandro Maya says. “I wanted to do something to support our friends and neighbors on Miami Beach.” The offer is available daily until the shutdown ends for furloughed workers who present their government ID. Mojo Donuts and Fried Chicken. The Miami/Westchester location ONLY will be offering all federal employees and their children impacted by the government shutdown a free coffee and a free gourmet doughnut each time they visit. The offer is good for one visit per day and a valid Federal ID must be presented at checkout. Offer valid only at Miami location. Pérez Art Museum Miami. The museum is offering free admission with a valid federal employee ID, as well as select part-time employment opportunities to help furloughed workers bridge the gap during the shutdown. Government workers and one guest will be granted free admission to PAMM with a federal ID that proves employment. This offer remains available until the shutdown ends. In addition, furloughed federal employees passionate about art are invited to apply to join the PAMM team part-time. Pollo Tropical. Federal employees with a valid ID can purchase the chain's signature citrus-marinated chicken with rice and beans for $2.99. The offer is good at all Florida locations. Various locations.

Quarterdeck. The restaurant is offering a 50 percent discount on all food and beverage purchases for all federal employees during the government shutdown. This offer is valid at all five locations, including Fort Lauderdale, Davie, Plantation, and Dania Beach. Various locations.

Repour Bar. Federal employees get a free specialty cocktail with the purchase of a cocktail on the new Stranger Drinks menu. 1650 James Ave., Miami Beach; 305-913-1000; repourbar.com.

Seminole Casino Coconut Creek. Government employees from the Treasury, Homeland Security, Interior, State, HUD, Transportation, Justice, Agriculture, and Commerce Departments who show their valid government ID can enjoy lunch at Fresh Harvest or dinner at Sorrisi through January 31. From Monday to Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., a government employee and guest can have lunch at Fresh Harvest each day, up to five times a week. The maximum value is $19 per person, $38 per couple. At Sorrisi, a government employee and guest may have dinner once a week Sunday, Wednesday, or Thursday (5 to 10 p.m.) or Friday and Saturday (5 to 11 p.m.).
