Independent Journalism in Miami Needs You
We need to raise $10,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
Are you over the piña colada? Well next Tuesday, Coconut Grove bartenders will share their favorite concoctions with you at the first annual Drinks of the Grove Competition at the Burgundy Room. Ten local bartenders will mix their hearts out to see who makes the best summer cocktail.
But, get ready fellow boozehounds, here’s the best part: for $25 you get ten drink tickets that’ll get you one drink from each bartender. After you try them all, you’ll be able to vote for your top three to determine the winner.
Starting at 7 p.m., the mixologists will be stationed along Burgundy Room’s three bars, including the outdoor patio, where they will showcase either a house drink or a bartender’s own creation. Long-time favorites like Mr. Moes, Fat Tuesday, and Hooters will be there, or you can try out new bars like CocoWalk’s Central Beer Garden. They’ll have each recipe on display, if you want to recreate the drinks yourself.
Burgundy Room will also have their own bartenders at the main bar, if you’re looking for a beer chaser.
The Swingin’ Richards, Burgundy Room’s house band, will be there for what they are terming “Rockstar Karaoke,” (really, is there any such thing?) and at the end of the night, they’ll announce the three finalists. Although there will be a prize, the event is all about getting to know the Grove and its bars. We can see ourselves getting cozy with the Grove already.
