After 23 years of serving some of Miami's best brick-oven pies, Andiamo Brick Oven Pizza will officially close its doors this fall. The longtime pizzeria, founded in 2001 by Miami hospitality pioneer Mark Soyka and his wife, Sasha, has become a staple of the city's MiMo District, both for its pizza and its iconic setting inside the midcentury General Tire Building at 5600 Biscayne Blvd.

But now, the beloved pie shop is counting its final days in MiMo. In a statement shared exclusively with New Times on August 7, Sasha writes, "With the heaviest heart, we have no plans to relocate at this time. We don't have an exact date as of now. Our lease ends at the end of September, so we're taking it week by week as of now! We're running with a small crew and still pumping our fresh pies as long as we can."

As first reported by New Times in 2024, Burgers & Shakes, a fast-casual Miami-based burger and milkshake chain, will take over the historic space in early 2026. It marks the brand's fourth location, which first debuted on Collins Avenue in Miami Beach and has since expanded to Fort Lauderdale and Hollywood.

Burgers & Shakes' founder, George Iglesias, says acquiring the historic Robert Law Weed–designed
building was a "dream come true." "I have always been in love with this building. It is iconic and a one-of-a-kind property here in Miami," Iglesias said in a 2024 statement. "My concept is built for locals and families. I know we will be a great addition to the MiMo district."

Two Decades of Gouda Memories

Since news of the heartbreaking closure came about in the fall of 2024, longtime customers have been coming out in waves to support their favorite pizzeria.

On Instagram, heartwrenching posts, like the one posted on August 3, are flooded with comments. A customer writes, "What a shame that this will be gone soon. These posts show what will be missed soon." On another post, which is a photo of a chalkboard that reads "Things are different," the caption reads, "Please be patient with us, this is hard times for us, sad times as we head into closing the restaurant. We are still pumping fresh, delicious pizza for you, the best we can. Love you all. See you here for all of our last Andiamo days."

Customers immediately sprang to the comments, writing, "No! You've been my favorite pie in Miami! When is the last day? I need my fix before you close," and "Thank you for all these years of great pizza and salads. One of the few places selling food during COVID, tough times, and offering outdoor seating. Many memories there."

In response to the outpouring of love from fans, Sasha tells New Times, "It's been so amazing how sweet and caring the community has been about us closing. Each customer that comes in has a memory to share, and we're truly touched and honored to be a part of these memories. It's the end of an era, and we'll see what the future holds for Andiamo!"

The Historic Building Will Be Preserved With the New Tenant

Designed in 1954 by famed Miami architect Robert Law Weed, the striking glass-enclosed structure once housed a Standard Oil gas station and is considered a hallmark of modernist architecture. Its clean lines, open layout, and "floating roof" made it the perfect canvas for Soyka, who opened Andiamo one year after launching the beloved (and now shuttered) Soyka restaurant across the street.

Though Andiamo's lease is ending, the legacy of the building will live on, says Camilo Alvarado Boshell, developer and architect at Kubik. As a member of the city's historic and preservation board since 2004, Boshell has long advocated for the property's careful restoration. "My vision has always been to restore its original signage with a bold brand like Burgers & Shakes," Boshell said in 2024. "This is about revitalizing the energy Mark Soyka sparked in the early 2000s and continuing MiMo’s rise as one of Miami’s most vibrant neighborhoods."

Until its final day of service, Andiamo Brick Oven Pizza remains open with an updated schedule, which can be found on Instagram.
