Boca Raton is seeing a new wave of restaurants this fall, and one of the most highly anticipated restaurant openings of the year is occurring this weekend.

Modern Japanese sushi restaurant Kasumi will open at the Waterstone Resort & Marina in Boca Raton on Saturday, October 19, with sleek sushi dishes in a high-end setting.

The restaurant was founded by James Beard award-winning chef Takashi Yagihashi and renowned chef and restaurateur Jonathan Fox. Together, they bring more than 60 years of combined experience to Boca promising an "unparalleled dining experience that melds tradition with innovation."

Kasumi will also introduce diners to the refined art of omotenashi, the Japanese concept of hospitality that emphasizes meticulous attention to detail and an exceptional dining atmosphere.

"We are thrilled to bring Kasumi to life in Boca Raton, where we aim to create a unique dining experience that celebrates the rich traditions of Japanese cuisine," says Eric Hammer, Kasumi's general manager. "The entire team is excited to welcome guests to our beautiful location and share our passion for exceptional food and service."

Adding to the restaurant's sophistication is its location, which is along the Intracoastal Waterway facing the Atlantic Ocean, providing a serene backdrop for its high-quality sushi and other Japanese offerings.

A Menu of Sushi and Sashimi Flown in From Japan

Kasumi's menu will feature an array of sushi and sashimi, with some of the fish sourced locally and others that are flown in from Japan.

Chef Yagihashi will also showcase classic Japanese dishes like "Obanzai Garden Vegetables," "Shio Koji Sea Bass," and "Chicken Toban Taki" presented in a modern way. The restaurant will also feature an extensive selection of sake and Japanese whiskey, a carefully curated cocktail collection, and an extensive wine list.

Kasumi is an entirely new concept and space, and its interior was designed by Heidi Avedisian of White Ink Design. Avedisian has brought to life a clean, modern, and moody Japanese coastal aesthetic that incorporates organic layers of teak, rattan, and limestone with a marine textile palette. This combination of colors and textures contrasts the waterfront views — a combination that is perfect for dining at any time of the day or night.

Kasumi joins the ranks of Boca Raton restaurants as a unique waterfront dining destination. There will be seating for 150 guests between the expansive bar, dining room, and waterfront terrace. A new private dining room within the restaurant will begin hosting events later this fall.

Upon opening on October 19, Kasumi will serve dinner Tuesday through Sunday beginning at 5 p.m. Reservations are now available via opentable.com.
