On Sunday, people risked their lives in attempts to make their early morning flights out of Miami International Airport.

TikTok videos show dozens of people climbing over a freight train, luggage in hand, and walking two miles on the highway to the airport after the train was stuck around 5 a.m. just outside the airport on Le Jeune Road. The videos captured cars backed up in traffic as the train blocked the entrance to the airport.

"When you get stuck two miles outside of the Miami airport, less than an hour before your flight boards," a user wrote on TikTok. "You hop over the train."

The video shows people leaving their Ubers stranded on the highway and walking over the stopped train. As they climbed over the train, they passed their luggage to one another. They then had to walk the rest of the way — about two miles — to the airport. As the pair made it there, the woman's friend says, "I am absolutely disgusting." The woman chimes in, "Me too."

"After a two-mile walk in, I think like 30 minutes, no, maybe 20 minutes, here we are," she adds.

In a different video, one person wrote, "You have 20 minutes until boarding, and a train is blocking you from the Miami airport at 5:30 a.m." She noted that she waited in traffic for 30 minutes before making the trek. Thankfully, she did make her flight.

Another woman said she missed her flight to John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York thanks to the unplanned excursion.

This isn't the first time travelers have had nightmare experiences at Miami airport. Between the broken elevators and escalators, the unreliable Skytrain, and random green liquid falling out of the ceiling, the airport is known for its constant issues (despite a new report that ranked MIA the best airport for layovers).

"And another two-mile walk to get to your gate," a user responded to one of the videos. "Miami airport is rough af."

Miami International Airport spokesperson Greg Chin told New Times that a CSX Transportation train was stuck on the track from 5:30 to 7:30 a.m., temporarily blocking inbound traffic.

CSX had not responded to a request for comment at the time of publication, but sent the following statement early Monday evening:

At CSX, we understand that it can be frustrating when trains block road crossings and we make every effort to prevent that from happening, whenever possible. However, on June 1, 2025, one of our trains experienced a mechanical issue near Miami International Airport during the early morning hours. As soon as CSX was notified of the problem, we immediately dispatched a crew to fix it. We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the unexpected delay. Our goal is to safely and efficiently transport freight for our customers while working to limit the impact of our operations on the communities we serve. We thank local residents for their patience as we worked to resolve the issue.

Neither the airport's spokesman, Greg Chin, nor CSX responded to follow-up requests from New Times — specifically, which, if any, agencies would be liable if any of the inconvenienced travelers were injured in an incident such as this one. Maps of the area appear to show that the railroad tracks where the train stopped are entirely surrounded by airport property, save for Le Jeune Road itself, which is a state road (SR 953).
