Miami Beach Police Department S.W.A.T. Team was called in to handle a stand-off on South Beach tonight.
An unidentified white male “barricaded” himself at 1309 Euclid Avenue, according to Det. Vivian Hérnandez. As of 10:15 p.m., both 13th and 14th Streets were blocked off at Euclid. A half-dozen squad cars were parked behind crime-scene tape and the back door to the S.W.A.T. van stood open.
UPDATE: The man was taken into custody without incident around 10:25 p.m. but the whole event was a case of mistaken identity.
The man retreated into the building when undercover police asked him for identification, thinking he was the subject of a grand theft warrant. Police then called S.W.A.T.
Turns out, however, that the man they later arrested was not the suspect, just a guy who didn’t want to hand over his ID. But he is still being charged with obstruction of justice.
Not a good Friday night for him.
