Kevin McKenzie, a 13-year veteran of the Pinecrest Police Department, finds himself behind bars today after being charged with carrying on a sexual relationship with an underaged girl.
The charges came to light when the 16-year-old girl told her mother about the affair. She said that she had McKenzie four times and was able to identify the officer based on his driver’s license photo.
McKenzie, a Jamaican immigrant, now faces four counts unlawful sexual activity with a certain minor.
“Officer McKenzie has violated the public trust, dishonored his oath of office, and tarnished the badge,” read a Pinecrest Police Department news release.
McKenzie was immediately relieved of duty without pay and will be recommended for termination.
He’s now being held on $200,000 bond and has been ordered to have no contact with the victim or her family.
