Beginning July 1, it will only cost you $1 per hour to park in Miami Beach.
The city announced that the hourly parking rates will decrease for all of July and August to help boost the local economy during the slowest and hottest months of the year. The reduced rate will apply to municipal parking lots, garages, and on-street parking.
"Summer is here, and we welcome everyone to enjoy Miami Beach with our lowest parking rates!" Miami Beach Commissioner Alex Fernandez, who sponsored the parking promotion, said in a press release. "With $1 hourly parking and incredible seasonal offerings like Miami Spa Month and Miami Spice, this is the perfect time to explore, unwind, and savor all that Miami Beach has to offer."
Unlike this summer promotion, which appears to welcome outsiders, the city is far less inviting to visitors during a different time of year. When spring breakers descend on Miami Beach, the city hikes parking rates up to $100 and shuts down some garages entirely — moves that seem designed to keep certain crowds out.
Miami Beach officials have maintained that the restrictive measures in the spring have nothing to do with race, despite what civil rights leaders have claimed. So naturally, when it is too hot and not as appealing for tourists and nonlocals to go visit Miami Beach, the city discounts parking.
"We are encouraging more activity in our commercial districts — helping our small businesses stay strong and grow," Miami Beach Mayor Steven Meiner added in the press release.
The discount is only available through the ParkMobile app. During the two summer months, users will receive up to three discounted hours per parking session and up to 45 discounted hours in total.
To access the discounted rate, you must open the ParkMobile app and enter the zone number. A promo code for that parking zone will appear in a pop-up banner. You will only need to enter that code for the first time you park in that particular zone with the discounted hourly rate.
