Independent Journalism in Miami Needs You

We need to raise $10,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.

$10,000

Sunshine Blues Fest? The words sunshine and blues may seem strange together, but the juxtaposition will hardly matter when gold recording artist Clarence Carter performs. Renowned for songs like “Sixty Minute Man” and “Strokin’,” Carter, who was born blind in Alabama, has fused traditional blues style with his Southern upbringing to create a unique, soulful, R&B-style sound over the course of his 40-year career. The fest will be held at the Joseph Caleb Auditorium and will also include a performance by local modern electric blues artists Ike and Val Woods, who got their start in Fort Lauderdale and have been playing locally and recording ever since.
