Following yesterday’s announcement that the Flaming Lips will not perform at SunFest today, the band has announced that it will also miss a May 1 stop at the 2010 Beale Street Music Festival in Memphis.
We already were aware that Flaming Lips’ multi-instrumentalist Steven Drozd was recently hospitalized with an
unknown ailment, but according to Memphis’ MyEyewitnessNews.com, doctors say he is expected to make a full recovery.
A statement from Beale Street Music Festival organizers follows after the jump.
“A hospitalization of a member of Flaming Lips has caused the band to be unable
to perform at the 2010 Beale Street Music Festival. In a statement released on Wednesday, April 28, band management said: ‘Multi instrumentalist Steven Drozd of THE FLAMING LIPS has been hospitalized and will be unable to perform. Doctors are expecting a full recovery within a few weeks. As a result, all immediate shows will be postponed.’
‘We are very disappointed in this cancellation, as we like many others looked forward to the Flaming Lips first performance at the Beale Street Music Festival,’ said Jim Holt, President/CEO of Memphis in May International Festival. ‘While let down, we are also concerned for StevenDrozd and wish him a rapid recovery.'”
