It's strange enough that the Flaming Lips will not perform tomorrow evening at SunFest due to an unknown medical emergency involving their guitarist. Follow that up with the revelation that a Buzz 103 morning DJ is the last-minute replacement.
According to SunSentinal.com, one of the three hosts on Buzz 103.1's "The Morning Buzz," Bryan "Smitty" Smith, and his band Ladies and Gentlemen, described as "melody-driven rock, spiked with irreverent humor" will take over the gap in the lineup. We checked out the band's MySpace, and there's a dub-style cover of Peter Bjorn and John's "Young Folks."
Technically, Bedouin Soundclash is replacing the Lips in the 9:15 p.m. slot, and Ladies and Gentlemen will play at 7:30 p.m. Admittedly, the SunFest folks were likely in a mad scramble to find someone on such short notice, but this announcement still has to be a blow for any number of talented local bands.
