Like the History Channel, MTV is lying about itself. Despite their respective names, programming is anything but historical or musical.
For example, Teen Mom and Snooki and JWoww are reality-ish shows, and they’re light-years away from MTV’s traditional business model built around a 24-hour music format.
Today, music videos are virtually non-existent during peak viewing hours. But still, MTV continues to pay homage with its annual Video Music Awards.
Earlier today, the network announced its nominees for the 29th VMAs. But with the exception of about three acts, it’s an arbitrary list of highly marketable pop stars who film over-the-top videos in an effort to supplement grossly overproduced music.
