Are you 5 foot 6 inches tall, have a skinny build, are marked up with tattoos, and sport an eyebrow slit? Well, you need to make your way to Tropical Park on Friday, November 22, at 2 p.m. and enter the Rauw Alejandro look-alike contest. The event is being organized by local influencer Emely Hernandez (AKA Really Emely), promising a $500 prize for the person who most resembles Alejandro.
Also, Hernandez is inviting all the "single girlies" looking for a Temu version of a Puerto Rican singer as a potential future boyfriend.
New Times has reached out to Hernandez about the event but hasn't received a response.
The Alejandro look-alike contest is, without a doubt, trying to take advantage of the virality of similar events around the globe. It all started last month when YouTuber Anthony Po hosted a Timothée Chalamet-look-alike contest featuring a $50 prize at Washington Square Park in New York City. Even Chalamet himself made an appearance at the event.
Since then, the trend has exploded. There was a Jeremy Allen White look-alike competition in Chicago, where seemingly everyone wore a white tee and blue apron, just like he does in The Bear. There was also a Paul Mescal contest in Dublin, where donning Mescal's signature short shorts seemed to be a requirement to enter.
The look-alike trend has reached peak popularity, with Nicolaia Rips for W magazine already wondering, "When Will the Celebrity Lookalike Contests End?"
The answer is definitely not this week, as the Alejandro event has already attracted plenty of attention. People seem excited, with comments ranging from "going to find my husband at the Rauw look-alike contest" to complaints of "Why is this at 2 p.m. in the middle of my work day?"
And, who knows, maybe a certain singer will make an appearance.
Rauw Alejandro Look-Alike Contest. 2 p.m. Friday, November 22, at Tropical Park, 7900 Bird Rd., Miami. Admission is free.
