In a little over a week, Miami will be home to the college football championship. The big game will take place Monday, January 19, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. But the party (especially if the University of Miami makes the championship round) will be all over South Florida. One free way to celebrate is the recently announced AT&T Playoff Playlist Live!, whose stage will be in Lummus Park on South Beach.
Saturday night will have an electronic music bent with Calvin Harris headlining the evening. The Scottish DJ and record producer was once the world’s highest-paid DJ as songs like “This Is What You Came For” and “Summer” became worldwide hits. Saturday night also features John Summit, a former accountant who accounted that he could make more money DJing and producing EDM bangers. The opener, Xandra, is a University of Miami alum who made headlines as both a DJ and a swimsuit model.
Sunday night has a more Latin vibe. The headliner, Peso Pluma, is a Mexican singer and rapper who will play his first Miami show since canceling his June 2024 date at the Kaseya Center. Also on the bill are Latin Mafia, a Mexican trio that squeezes pop, R&B, and Latin trap into a musical food processor and pushes a blend. Greeicy, a Colombian singer, will start the evening off with her Spanish-language pop stylings.
Once again, the concerts are completely free. No tickets are required; just show up, and entrants will be allowed in on a first-come, first-served basis starting when the doors open each night at 6 pm.
Hopefully, Calvin Harris can bring some energy. When he headlined the 2024 Ultra Music festival, New Times was not impressed, reviewing it thusly, “Harris just played tracks largely unchanged, making it feel more like a traditional concert than a DJ set. Because of his massive catalogue of hits, he’s probably the only DJ that can get away with this.” Hopefully, this show can offer Harris redemption as a preamble to the local college winning the national championship.
AT&T Playoff Playlist Live. 6 p.m. Saturday, January 17, and Sunday, January 18, at Lummus Park between 5th and 15th St. on Ocean Dr., Miami Beach. collegefootballplayoff.com. Admission is free.
