Few vocalists can surpass the majesty and grandeur of Celia Cruz, but international sensation Lucrecia comes quite close. The Cuban-born salsa singer — backed by a classic Cuban-style big band — delivers passionate, high-energy performances of traditional Latin melodies, not to mention interprets boleros and jazz standards too.
Even celebrity endorsers, including Andy Garcia, sing on her latest album. She has also collaborated with hit makers such as Paquito D’Rivera, Chavela Vargas, Arturo Sandoval, and the Queen of Salsa herself. Lucrecia’s previous eight albums don’t hold a candle to her latest, Album de Cuba, on which she croons nostalgic homages to her motherland. The disc celebrates an era when Cuban songs were instant hits all over the world, and pays tribute to classics such as “Guantanamera,” “El Manisero,” and “Siboney” in a romantic, elegant styling that makes listeners want to dance.
