Independent Journalism in Miami Needs You
We need to raise $10,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
Blind people jokes and creative reinterpretations of “Feliz Navidad” aside, my knee-jerk reaction was, is this dude still alive? Yup. Alive and active. He’s been keeping busy on the live circuit and in the studio, releasing a pair of digital albums last year (American Classics and Djangoisms) and shopping for shades. Okay, sorry about that. But seriously, this Puerto Rican-American singer, guitarist and songwriter might best be remembered for that 1970 holiday tune, but he’s better known within musical circles as a true gentleman of the art who’s maintained relevance throughout a career now spanning five decades, no easy feat. Though there might be many temptations available at the Magic City Casino, what will be more interesting will certainly be Feliciano’s set list and I can only hope he revisits his cover of the Door’s “Light My Fire” at some point during the night.
José Feliciano at 3 pm on Sunday, March 14 at Magic City Casino, 450 NW 37 Ave., Miami. Tickets cost $20 to $35, all ages. 305-649-3000. www.flaglerdogs.com
