Although the media tries to ignore it, hard rock (or emo, or rap metal, or whatever you want to call it) rules the heartland, selling out arenas while hip-hoppers struggle to fill seats with massive package tours. In South Florida, radio station 94.9 ZETA (WZTA-FM) is the rallying point for the headbangers, and their annual Halloweenie Roast, now in its ninth edition, is a highlight of the year. Expect plenty of bands to take the stage, but keep an eye out for Nonpoint, a homegrown product of Fort Lauderdale cultivating a following with a new album, Recoil.
