What does Miami's favorite power couple do after they've dominated the Latin music charts, snagged more Grammys than you can ever fit onto one shelf, and created an empire of Cuban restaurants?
Take their talents to Broadway, of course.
Gloria and Emilio Estefan have teamed up with the Nederlander Organization for On Your Feet! a Broadway musical that'll share the story of the Estefans with the world. And starting next fall, they're gonna make you get up y bailar to the music of their lives.
Written by Broadway vet Alexander Dinelaris, the bilingual production will tell the tale of the Estefans' journey to the United States, how they became international Latin music sensations, and their role in sparking the careers of Shakira, Ricky Martin, Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, and Jon Secada.
The show will also touch on dark times and personal tragedies, including Gloria's spinal cord injury in 1990, which almost left her paralyzed.
"We are very excited to share this story, which is based on hope, determination, and the belief that with hard work and passion, our dreams can become our reality," the Estefans say in their official statement.
"Our music has been a true reflection of who we are, where we came from, and the journey that has brought us to where we are today."
Directed by Jerry Mitchell of Kinky Boots and choreographed by Sergio Trujillo of Jersey Boys, the show will feature Gloria's greatest hits, including "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You," "1-2-3," "Conga," and "Get on Your Feet," so you know it's gonna be una tremenda pachanga.
There's no word on who'll play the role of Gloria and Emilio yet, but rumor has it that auditions for a teenage and 20-something Gloria will be documented for a reality TV show.
The musical will premiere in Chicago in Fall 2015 before shaking its culo onto Broadway. And since the Estefans are puro 305, we're pretty sure On Your Feet! will eventually conga line its way down to Miami too.
