Independent Journalism in Miami Needs You
We need to raise $10,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.
The battle lines are being drawn and the faces are getting painted as the Texas A&M Aggies take on the Miami Hurricanes football team at the Orange Bowl for a midweek showdown today. This is a pivotal game for our hometown boys, for their defense will be tested early and often by the versatile running attack of Aggies quarterback Stephen McGee and running back Jorvorskie Lane. Meanwhile, when the Hurricanes have the ball on offense, they will be looking to fire on all cylinders to get to the end zone.
Miami’s new head coach, Randy Shannon, is still watching for one of the quarterbacks — fingers crossed for Kirby Freeman or Kyle Wright — to step up his game and solidify the QB position. Nobody wants a repeat performance of last season, which marked the first time since 1995 that Miami didn’t score 300 points in a season. This evening’s matchup will be the last nonconference game on the schedule for UM before they enter their ACC schedule next weekend.
