Independent Journalism in Miami Needs You

We need to raise $10,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.

$10,000

You’d think that after driving recklessly while behind the wheel of a $1.7 million Bugatti on South Beach and then failing a field sobriety test last summer, Flo Rida would want to squash his reputation as one of hip-hop’s wild ones. Instead, the 32-year-old Carol City native turned that rep into Top 40 radio’s 2012 party anthem.

Since December 2011, Flo Rida’s infectious “Wild Ones,” a collaboration with up-and-comer Sia, has been chiseling its catchy hook into your memory bank and playing on a never-ending loop in your subconscious. Whether you’re mindlessly crunching numbers at your cubicle or stuck in the sandwich line at Publix, “Hey, I heard you were the wild one/Oooh, oooh, oooh” inadvertently slips from your mouth and breaks the silence when you least expect it, much like Cee Lo’s “Fuck You” did last year.

At the office, a co-worker slides out from behind his desk after hearing you sing the chorus, peeks around the partition, and says, “Now that’s stuck in my head, dammit!” He has unwillingly accepted the proverbial baton in the seemingly inexhaustible relay race that is popular music.

Honestly, there’s no choice other than accepting and embracing it. And there’s no better place to let loose your inner wild one than at Flo Rida’s upcoming concert with Cee Lo and B.o.B., oooh, oooh, oooh.
