At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $18,000 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
than justified, and the title La Reina de la Salsa (The Queen
of Salsa) could not be better deserved, for Celia was just that. Anyone
who ever met her could testify to her charisma, and her infectiously
jubilant personality. And the music!
It’s fitting that we should continue to honor her long after she passed away, and that’s exactly what Celia: La Vida Y La Música De Celia Cruz
strives to do. The musical, which played in Miami a year ago before
touring internationally, has returned to the Adrienne Arscht Center
from June 2 through 21.
Starring Anissa Gathers and Seidy Carrera as
Cruz in different eras of her life, and Pedro Telemaco as her husband
Pedro Knight, the musical brings hits form La Guarachera’s catalogue to
life onstage with the help of musical director, Isidro Infante, a long
time friend and collaborator of Celia’s.
Celia: La Vida Y La
Música De Celia Cruz plays at the John S. And James L. Knight Concert
Hall in the Adrienne Arsht Center (1300 Biscayne Blvd) from June 2-21.
Tickets range $60 – $125.
