Independent Journalism in Miami Needs You

We need to raise $10,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.

It wasn’t long ago that Toronto duo AutoErotique was known as VNDLSM, which closely resembles the name of another vowel-less Toronto DJ/producer duo. Perhaps it was because they signed to the Dim Mak label — also home to that other vowel-less Toronto DJ/producer duo — that the pair changed its name to AutoErotique.

Still, unlike — oh, we’ll say it — MSTRKRFT, AutoErotique’s sound has evolved from the crunchy, power-tool-sounding electro-house of the recent past to a more traditional house music vibe with a certain European flair, yet with a North American sense of humor about it all. In other words, you won’t feel like it’s 2007 all over again when you hear these guys on the decks. At the same time, they have no problem mixing it up and taking their set way toward left field. Death metal, ska, dance rock, and other styles are all fair game during sets. If hearing is believing, check them out this Friday at Louis along with resident DJ Damaged Goods.
