We can hardly wait for the long weekend ahead. If you don’t know what you’re doing to celebrate Independence Day, you’ll be glad to know there are several restaurants and parks hosting parties for the occasion. Following are some options around town.
Celebrate early at Tobacco Road’s Red White Booze & Micro Brews celebration on Saturday, July 2. That’ll give you the whole weekend to nurse that hangover. Festivities will feature 15 food trucks, tastings for the best American small-batch liquors and micro-brews and a bartender competition. The party starts at 6 p.m. and runs until midnight. 305-374-1198.
Feel at home at this Surfside resort’s celebration. The menu includes
grilled-to-order burgers, hot dogs, pasta salad, homemade chips and
apple pie. There will also be live entertainment and a fireworks display
starting at 9 p.m. Kids can watch movies and eat ice cream and popcorn
indoors. Festivities take place from 5 to 10 p.m. $55 for adults and $35
for children 12 or younger. 305-455-5400.
Pack a picnic and head to the historic Barnacle for live music from
11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you have kids, there are plenty of kids
activities to keep them busy including kite making and a scavenger hunt.
Burgers and hot dogs will be available for sale at the park in case you
don’t want to bring your own food. Admission is $5 for adults and $3
for kids ages 6 to 11. After the picnic, move on to Peacock Park where a
concert and pig cook-off starts at 4 p.m. 305-442-6866
Say good-bye to the Rusty Pelican as it closes its doors for
renovations with a Fourth of July party. Choose your meal a la carte or
enjoy a barbecue buffet in the restaurant’s ballroom. The buffet
includes ribs, chicken, oysters and sushi stations to name a few.
Unlimited wine, champagne and draft beer is included in the $40 price
tag. There will be live music and a nice view of the downtown fireworks. Call 305-361-3818 for reservations.
They’re not having a Fourth of July party but they are offering
specials to celebrate. Try the 10-piece country fried chicken platter
for $10 or a barbecue pulled pork grilled cheese served with cole slaw
and mac ‘n’ cheese for $16. Other items include a 10-piece BBQ wing
basket and a steak sandwich. If you buy one of the sandwiches, you get
one free glass of Sam Adams draft beer. 305-672-3287.
Fireworks and barbecue are the highlights of the
National Hotel’s Fourth of July pool party. Starting at 4 p.m. you can
enjoy the celebration for $34 ($17 for children). Add another $34 and
enjoy unlimited drinks, beer and wine while you listen to live music.
When night falls, get a front seat on the beach to watch Miami Beach’s
fireworks display. For reservations, call 305-532-2311
Enjoy dishes like Angus beef burgers, “backyard” barbecue chicken and
baked beans at Coconut Grove’s Gibraltar. The food is a reasonable $20
per adult and $10 per child. Two-for-one beer and wine and $8 rum
runners and margaritas complete the deal. And you can watch the
fireworks from downtown Miami, Key Biscayne and Miami Beach. For
reservations, call 305-860-4381.
