Independent Journalism in Miami Needs You

We need to raise $10,000 by August 9 to support the reporting our community depends on. Reader support keeps us independent and is playing a larger role in funding local journalism and shaping what comes next. If you believe independent local journalism matters, make a contribution today.

$10,000

Enough already with the egg nog — a barely quaffable drink only when poured in minor proportion to the rum. But here’s another holiday beverage idea: Kahlúa Peppermint Mocha Hot Cocoa. It has the whole peppermint-Christmas thing going on (especially when festively garnished with a peppermint stick), tastes great, and will help keep you warm on these brutal Miami winter nights (seriously!). And as with egg nog, you can serve it to the kids sans booze.

Peppermint Mocha is a limited edition by the famed makers of coffee liqueur. It’s made with 100% Arabica beans, dark chocolate, and a dash of peppermint. It’s $17.95 a bottle. You can probably spike quite a few cocoas with that.

Recipe follows.

Kahlúa Peppermint Mocha Hot Cocoa

2 parts milk
1 part cocoa powder (make it a good one)
1 part Kahlúa Peppermint Mocha
garnish: peppermint sticks and marshmallows

Directions: Bring milk to simmer. Whisk in chocolate. Simmer for 30 seconds while stirring. Add Kahlúa Peppermint Mocha. Garnish with peppermint stick and marshmallows.
