Months after famed chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten announced his first-ever luxury residential skyrise, he’s officially opening a restaurant within the building.
The famed chef behind New York’s ABC Kitchen, ABC Cocina, and ABCV will open ABC Kitchens (a different concept than ABC Kitchen) inside the upcoming Miami Tropic Residences, a 48-story tower rising at 3501 NE First Ave., located between the Miami Design District and Midtown. ABC Kitchens will follow the model of Vongerichten’s recently opened Brooklyn outpost of ABC Kitchens, combining the best of his three ABC restaurants: the farm-to-table focus of ABC Kitchen, the Latin-inspired cooking of ABC Cocina, and the vegetable-driven dishes of ABCV.
The news first surfaced on Alan Philips’ What’s Good MIA Instagram account, after he spotted a mention of Miami in an Eater New York article about the Brooklyn opening. Philips later confirmed that the restaurant would anchor the Miami Tropic Building and estimated that the opening could occur within the next 18 to 24 months, aligning with the building’s completion.
The restaurant will anchor the base of Miami Tropic Residences, a collaboration between Terra and Lion Development Group. Designed by Arquitectonica with interiors by Yabu Pushelberg, the 48-story building is Vongerichten’s first partnership in residential real estate. Residents of the tower will have access to private dining, culinary events, and a rooftop restaurant by the chef, while the ground-floor ABC Kitchens will be open to the public.
We don’t yet know what the Miami version will look like, but the newly opened ABC Kitchens in Brooklyn offers a few clues. That location blends the chef’s three New York concepts into one massive space filled with vintage furniture, wood tables, and shelves lined with flowers and glassware. The menu combines menu favorites like crab toast, dosas, and empanadas with seasonal dishes and market vegetables, while desserts arrive from colorful tableside ice cream carts.

Why It Matters
Vongerichten’s New York restaurants helped redefine upscale dining when the first ABC Kitchen opened in 2010. Located beside ABC Carpet & Home in Manhattan’s Flatiron District, it became known across the world for sourcing ingredients directly from local farms and emphasizing organic, sustainable cooking long before it was the ‘in’ thing to do. The concept grew into a family of neighboring restaurants with unique personalities but a shared philosophy.
However, this won’t be his first venture in Miami. He already operates Matador Room and Market at the Miami Beach Edition, both of which mix Latin flavors. ABC Kitchens will expand that presence with a more relaxed, ingredient-forward space.
