Miami’s Best Eats and Drinks This Week: New Happy Hours and a Hermit Crab Race

Say “happy Monday” with new happy-hour offerings at various Miami eateries. If you’re in Wynwood, head to Kyu; if you’re near Miami Beach, try the Mondrian’s new pop-up Hurao’s weekday specials or the Continental’s offerings, like cheesesteak egg rolls and $5 cocktails.

Eat a sub Wednesday at Jersey Mike’s Subs, where all the day’s profits will go toward the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation in honor of the sandwich chain’s annual Day of Giving.

End the week watching a hermit crab race while enjoying bar bites and drinks, including perros, chicken kebabs, and ribs, at Cafeina’s Krabtucky Derby.

Monday 
Weekday Happy Hour at Kyu, Hurao, and the Continental
Wynwood’s Kyu recently launched happy hour Tuesday through Friday from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. featuring $4 drafts from Concrete Beach and J. Wakefield, $6 wines, $7 specialty cocktails, and a variety of bar bites for $5. Highlights include pork and shiitake gyoza with smoked truffle ponzu; roasted cauliflower and goat cheese salad with shashito-herb vinaigrette; and crisp crab steamed buns. At the Mondrian’s Hurao pop-up, sip rosé and watch the sunset with 20 percent off food, $40 bottles of rosé, and $4 beers. Mondays and Fridays, the event will feature a DJ. It runs Monday through Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. At the Continental, congregate around Jenga at the pool bar while sipping $5 speciality drinks and sampling bar fare such as Korean fried chicken sliders, grilled Spinach empanadas, and cheesesteak egg rolls. Happy hour runs from 5 to 7 p.m. 

Tuesday 

Cinema and Ceviche at SuViche
Diners can present a movie ticket and receive a free small ceviche with a purchase of $15 or more. Guests can choose from any of SuViche’s popular ceviche varieties, including the SuViche ceviche, ceviche de ají amarillo, and ceviche chifa. The offer must be redeemed within three days of a movie screening.

Wednesday 
Eat a Sub at Jersey Mike’s Subs and Help a Charity
Hump day is Jersey Mike’s Subs’ Day of Giving, which means 100 percent of the proceeds will go toward one of 17 local charities. For all Miami-Dade locations, proceeds will be donated to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation. In 2015, Jersey Mike’s locations in Florida raised nearly $260,000 for the campaign, and the nationwide initiative raised more than $3 million for 150 local charities. The 2016 goal is $3.5 million for more than 180 local charities.

Inniskillin Wine Dinner at GK Bistronomie 
GK Bistronomie, along with Inniskillin wines, will host an exclusive wine dinner Wednesday night. Guests will enjoy a four-course menu curated by chef Rafael Perez Cambana and paired with Inniskillin’s varietals. Menu items include grilled octopus with sun-dried tomatoes, olives, and potatoes; cherrywood-smoked shrimp ceviche and pork belly with sun-dried tomatoes, olives, peanuts, basil, and chickpeas; cured salmon with pisco, lime, crème fraîche, red onion, avocado, and caviar; and nutella mousse for dessert. Mendin & Friends, With Guest Cohost Top Chef Winner Jeremy Ford, at Pubbelly
The Pubbelly Restaurant Group’s Jose Mendin will continue his series of Mendin & Friends Wednesday night with Jeremy Ford. The two will prepare a four-course menu with a Spanish twist and served family-style. Priced at $60 per person, dishes include lengua a la vinagretta, foie gras, buttery Maine lobster, pistachio tagliolini, black bass, and rabo de toro. Wine and sake pairings are available for an additional $38 per person. Thursday 
Krabtucky Derby at Cafeina Wynwood
Head to Cafeina for an evening of hermit crab racing and tasty bites and drinks. Craft beers will be offered for $5 and barbecue items such as perros, chicken kebabs, sliders, ribs, and French fries for $2 each. All food items include a guest’s choice of one of three beer sauces made from featured beers that evening. Doors open at 5 p.m.
