Icebox Cafe is moving from its home on Michigan Avenue right off Lincoln Road to the west side of South Beach.
After 15 years around the corner from one of the most famous pedestrian malls in the country, Icebox Cafe will move to what planners hope will be the “new” locals version of Lincoln Road — Sunset Harbour Shops.
The new location will have a larger seating area, an open kitchen, and a full liquor license (which makes us hungry for some dessert and cocktail pairings).
Icebox Cafe catapulted to fame when Oprah’s pal, Gayle King visited the
shop in 2006 and declared its cakes the best in America.

The multi-use space on Purdy Avenue has been attracting attention (and
tenants) with its restaurant-friendly deep sidewalk space, 460-car public
parking garage, and bike parking. Other tenants expected to move into the center are Panther Coffee and True Loaf Bakery.

Robert Siegmann told Short Order that he wants to be in an area where he
can better cater to the needs of his core business — the locals.
After 15 years on Lincoln Road, Siegmann feels it’s the right time for a
change.
Siegmann expects the Lincoln Road location to close —
and the Sunset Harbor location to open — in the beginning of April, when
construction on the new cafe is scheduled to finish.
There is also an Icebox Cafe at Miami International Airport, and a location was recently opened at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport. Siegmann also plans to open a second restaurant concept at MIA.
