Sure, New Year’s Eve has come and gone, but the big holiday week is still in full swing — along with megatraffic on the causeways leading to Miami Beach. Our suggestion is simple: Let snowbirds enjoy the beach for a few days more while you party in Coral Gables this Friday.
Tomorrow evening, January 3, is the 2014 kickoff of Giralda Under the Stars, a monthly event that turns Coral Gables into one large block party.
The event, presented by Zacapa Rum, takes place on Giralda Avenue’s restaurant row (between Ponce de Leon Boulevard and Galiano Street). From 7 p.m. until midnight, the streets will be closed to traffic, and some of the Gables’ hottest restaurants will set up tables and full bars for your alfresco dining pleasure.
In addition to food, there will be several live entertainment areas, as well as art available for perusing. Eventgoers can also have their pictures taken at the Starry Night photo station, provided by the University of Southernmost Florida, to share on social media using the hashtag #Giralda. There’s no admission to stroll and enjoy the music and festivities before or after dinner.
Participating restaurants include Bangkok Bangkok II, Castelluccio Ristorante, Miss Saigon, Spizzigo, Spritz, Talavera Cocina Mexicana, the Bar, the Local Craft Food & Drink, La Dorada Restaurant, Las Vegas Restaurant, Divino Ceviche, Ikura Sushi Lounge, La Santina Wine & Tapas, and Pete’s Authentic Cooking. Reservations are recommended and can be made directly with the restaurant of your choice.
