Nany’s Bakery, a Pembroke Pines favorite for the past four years, now has a South Beach branch — except this one is called Nany’s Café. The Colombian restaurant opened in May on a stretch of Washington Avenue that is suddenly getting busy with new eateries (such as Miss Saigon and Otentico). The clean 20-seater, with outdoor tables out front as well, offers hearty, tasty, home-cooked fare at excellent prices. Almost everything is $10 or less, and a lunch special brings a huge meal (including soup and salad) for $6.99 plus tax.
My wife and I stopped in and split a bandeja paisa (in photo):
thin, well-seasoned grilled steak; a fat, juicy sausage; cleanly fried
pork skin; delicious red beans; rice; plantains; a fried egg; and a
corn griddle cake. This particular platter costs $11.95 and sated the two
of us very well.
Service is friendly, and Colombian-American owner John Navarro is
nowadays on the premises to make sure you’re being taken care of. Wine and
cold beer are on hand too. Take-out, delivery, and late hours Fridays and Saturdays are some more reasons to give Nany’s Café a try.
