Earth ‘N’ Us is a permaculture farm that resides smack in the middle of Little Haiti. Ray Chasser’s house and surrounding land is home to emus, roosters, pigs, chickens, ducks, geese, goats, and turkeys, in addition to containing a thriving fruit and vegetable garden. We almost forgot–there are also bees which he harvests for honey.

There are also 20 to 30 human beings who live at Earth ‘N’ Us — including some who reside in tents and a treehouse on the property. (Heck, a New Times staffer even used to stay there.) Chasser welcomes all kinds of life into his home, saying the front door is always open and anyone is allowed inside. “Most people that hear about it and then come here say, ‘Wow, you can’t do it justice until you see it,'” he said.

People, animals, and plants all live together in this man-made urban jungle created by a man on a mission. Feel free to visit Ray and take a tour of the farm, and pick up some fresh honey and organic veggies while you’re at it.

At New Times, we’re small and scrappy — and we make the most of every dollar from our supporters. Right now, we’re $18,000 away from reaching our December 31 goal of $30,000. If you’ve ever learned something new, stayed informed, or felt more connected because of New Times, now’s the time to give back.
