There may be no food as perfect as the Cuban sandwich. The fresh bread, ham and cheese, and pickle are sublime when made at a restaurant or by your abuela. It is often misinderstood — as in this entry from Wikipedia, which confuses it with a Media Noche.

And there may be no game as perfect as baseball, which allows one to relax while taking in a sport. Nothing about the edge of the seat here.

Finally, there may be no player in the history of baseball more perfect than Cuban-by-way-of Minnesota Tony (Pedro) Oliva. Guy batted over .300 for his career and was rookie of the year in 1964. He taught much of America about the greatness of the island’s game.

So it is with delight that I introduce Miami to Tony O’s Cuban sandwiches, (The man himself is shown above with a Minnesota guy named Tim Broeker and a sandwich) Tony recently opened his store at the Twins’ new Target Stadium. I can only hope he is making plans to do so at the Marlins stadium when it opens in — what? — 2012.
