In spite of a torrential downpour and threats of a potential hurricane, the Chambord Vodka Weekend’s Detox Brunch ($40) went fabulously well. The staff at The Standard Hotel & Spa made sure guests were comfortable by opening umbrellas and handing out towels all afternoon.

There were platters of lush, fresh fruit and pastries both rich and flaky. Then there was an additional item as part of the three-course prix-fixe brunch menu on the hotel’s waterfront deck.

Choices included an omelet, a turkey sandwich, a bowl of greens with grilled chicken, or a skirt steak with French fries. Perhaps most notable, was the Chambord “lemonade” stand, from which a cute, muscular boy served unlimited and complimentary cocktails all afternoon.

I was invited to check out the brunch (no charge), but most of the crowd had participated in Chambord Vodka Weekend’s other events, some having arrived home at 7 a.m. from the prior evening’s excursions to Score Nightclub and Johnny’s Miami, a gay go-go dancer club, only to bounce back after a nap and shower to enjoy the brunch.

As part of the ticket price for the brunch, participants were able to enjoy a complimentary mud bath in one of the hotel’s spa facilities, so many revelers drank and dined in pristine, white spa robes.

What a delightful way to unwind after the other, more exciting events of Chambord Vodka Weekend.
