Buena Vista Deli Opening Second Location in North Miami

The team behind Buena Vista Deli plans to open a second location of the beloved French eatery this summer. It will be located in North Miami at 750 NE 125th St., in the historic, landmark plaza that’s home to the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA). However, because the name “Buena Vista” is trademarked, co-owner Cory Finot says the new place will be called Café Crème, a name he and partner Claude Postel have trademarked. 

“We don’t want to change the concept, because Buena Vista Deli works,” Finot says. “What I want to re-create is the fact that BVD is a meeting point for people; it’s very laid-back. You can stay on your computer, or you can have a quick lunch, or you can take food to go. I want it to be a neighborhood spot.”

So rest assured that at Café Crème, you can enjoy BVD’s famous French pastries and breads, as well as its affordable salads, sandwiches, and breakfast dishes. What will be different at the new location is the size — it’s roughly twice as large as the original and boasts a much bigger terrace. Patrons will also be able to order some of the dinner items available at Buena Vista Bistro, located next door to the deli in the Design District. 

Finot has hired French pastry chef Romain Soreau to lead the kitchen at Café Crème and says he’s excited to introduce customers to some new treats. The idea to open the spot came about several years ago, when the City of North Miami approached Finot and Postel about bringing their neighborhood café to the area. City representatives saw the positive impact that BVD had on the Buena Vista neighborhood when it opened six years ago, and they wanted the partners to do the same for this emerging town. 

The area surrounding Café Crème houses many midcentury antique shops that moved north when rents began rising in the Design District. Finot likes that North Miami is located between the Design District and Aventura and that there’s plenty of parking. 

Finot says the café will partner with MOCA to throw events in the plaza they share. The museum hosts many parties, but there aren’t many options for those who want to grab a bite before or after events. “The mayor and commissioner have been very supportive, and they want there to be more events on the plaza so people can come together,” Finot says.
