The Best Concerts in Miami This Week, May 29-June 4

Even though we try to hide it, it’s clear – summer has officially started in Miami. But don’t walk away, because there are still plenty of concerts to get you through the next blistering months. This week you can relive the glory days with Brit Floyd, catch free shows from Holly Hunt and The Heavy Pets, or choke back your tears with Macy Gray.

Hit Me, Baby, One More Time With That House Music

Around the turn of the century M.A.N.D.Y. was created and their story began. Their early release, “Put Put Put” must have sounded so proper at German nightclubs in 2001. It’s the ideal track to dress in all black and dance with stiff posture. “Body Language” was named “Ibiza Track of The Season” in 2005 which is like an Olympic Gold Medal for house music producers.

A Handful of Locals Keep Ska Alive

A new rebirth of ska has begun. “Ska is on its 76th wave, and people are starting to connect with it again,” says Mick Rude, guitarist and vocalist for Spred the Dub. “Look at all the new Corona ads using Desmond Dekker to sell beer, the Specials on a Fidelity Investment commercial. It’s coming back around, and with every show there’s a few more people skankin’ than the last one.”

“Cash Me Ousside” Girl Has an Alleged $50K Riding on Her Fort Lauderdale Show

Danielle Bregoli, whose stint on Dr. Phil went viral last year, is taking her act on the road — specifically, the road to Fort Lauderdale. The Boynton Beach 14-year-old, whose claim to fame is the phrase “cash me ousside, how bow dah,” has announced two tour dates: at Broward’s Revolution Live July 8 and in Houston, Texas. Sold-out shows will reportedly earn her $50,000 apiece.

Trap Karaoke at the Hangar: Just Show Up, Please

You might think karaoke is limited to cheap bars with crackling sound systems and slow Tuesday nights, but things are changing. “Bohemian Rhapsody” is starting to feel out of touch 25 years after its revival in Wayne’s World. N’Sync and Britney covers stopped being cute and ironic long before they became just sad. And, hey, except for board games, karaoke is the whitest way to pass time at a bar.

Memorial Day Weekend 2017: The Ten Best Parties

Memorial Day is the time we honor Americans who have lost their lives in battle. It’s also one of the few three-day weekends we regular folks get, so soak up the sun and the beer and have a good time. It’s not dishonorable. These are the moments our heroes fought so bravely to protect, right? Well, some of them anyway.

The Best Concerts in Miami This Week, May 22-28

Summer is almost here, and that means outdoor music has slowed. But it’s not over. Best of the Best Music Fest this Sunday will present Mavado, Aidonia, Konshens, Dexta Daps, Chris Martin, Spice, I-Octane, and others at Bayfront Park. Urban Beach Week moves to the mainland, baby. Here’s your music calendar for the week.

Symbi Roots, the Only All-Female Rara Band, Play Little Haiti Book Festival

Rara is Haitian festival music played with drums, maracas, and bamboo trumpets, which are known as vaksen. Until recently, the music was always played by men. That changed when Dieuvella Etienne bucked tradition and formed the group that is now called Symbi Roots, the all-female rara troupe that has taken up residency in South Florida over the past couple of months.
