Deerfield Beach’s first brewery is having a moment that stretches well beyond its taproom. Cove Brewery has the easygoing coastal thing down — surfboard spirit, beach-town crowd, beers built for salt air — but recent moves show serious ambition behind the taps. The family-owned operation brought in Jonathan Wakefield as head brewer and operating partner. That means beloved J. Wakefield Brewing legacy beers Hops 4 Teacher, El Jefe and Amber Waves are set to mingle with Cove’s already stellar lineup. Core beers including Pineapple Blonde, Paddle Out Pils, Left Break IPA, Refraction Swell IPA and The Tan Man Amber Lager are now distributed across South Florida. The brewery also expanded into spirits with vodka, rum and bourbon for package sales and taproom cocktails. Even its anniversary bash, Covechella, has outgrown the property after drawing more than 3,000 people. Stay coastal, indeed.

For 12 years, family-owned The Tank Brewing Co. has used its love of Miami as inspiration for bestselling brews. With 18 beers on tap, the 25,000-square-foot warehouse is fit with a taproom, a cigar lounge and a kitchen. Famous batches include the “La Playita” Pilsner, the American Amber Ale “Freedom Tower,” and the “Shark Valley” IPA, the latter of which donates $1-per-case sold to The Alliance for Florida National Parks to preserve and maintain the Everglades. The Tank also serves Latin-inspired delights including tuna tostones and guava manchego burgers. For those who wish to take The Tank home, you can find these home-grown brews by the case at Publix, Crown Liquors, Total Wine and Whole Foods.

Off the beaten path in the Bird Road Art District, you’ll find a spot many locals have turned into a home away from home. Lincoln’s Beard Brewing & Cocktails hosts live music acts, themed parties, line dancing, vintage markets and karaoke nights, bringing a little something for everyone as well as killer brews. The drink menu rotates to keep things fresh, but you can never go wrong with a Hazy Swayze. Lincoln’s recently added a cocktail bar and accompanying menu, so you don’t need to love beer to have a good time. In the back of the bar’s outdoor patio section, Louie’s Grubs offers smash burgers and Latin-influenced eats from pan con bistec to queso frito bites. 

Brewpub food often feels like an afterthought. At Off Site Kitchen x No Seasons Beer, it’s every bit as important as what’s being poured behind the bar. Since local brewer Theo Castillo transformed the beloved Little River hangout, the spot has become one of Miami’s best destinations for pairing exceptional craft beer with genuinely craveable food. Nothing screams luxury quite like the Faena Hotel, and its hotel bar exudes lavish splendor. From the moment you step foot into The Living Room, you’re wrapped in an aura of sophistication and opulence. The leopard decor mixes ‘80s Miami glamour with chandeliers, and the nod to Hollywood’s Golden Age is fit for Marilyn Monroe or Grace Kelly. Signature cocktails include the Garden Party with Grey Goose, cucumber, mint, basil, fresh-pressed lime juice and Fever-Tree soda water; as well as the Cathedral with Havana Club rum, Abricot Du Roussillon, fresh lime juice, simple syrup, orange bitters and foam. Once you order your ‘tini, it comes deconstructed on a silver platter with olives, lemon and your own vile of brine, so you can make it as dirty as you like. Behind the 1 Hotel in South Beach, Tala Beach is the perfect place to wander into post-swim and stay until sunset. Miller’s Ale House doesn’t just hit home runs, it racks up grand slams. Game day here is a full-contact experience with more than 60 wall-to-wall TV screens, 35 beers on tap and a roaring crowd. The menu sticks to meat-forward sports bar classics with an emphasis on wings and burgers — but there’s a twist. Skillet Queso Dunks bring a hot pan of melty cheese to the table with a burger cut in half to soak up all that gooeyness; and Miller’s signature, boneless chicken Zingers come on a Mountain Melt of loaded fries, or a “healthier” bed of salad greens. Opened in 2021, the woman-owned wine bar is a cozy hangout on Oakland Park’s main drag for date nights, catch-ups, girls’ nights and casual “one glass” plans that end up lasting three. Charcuterie boards, small plates, live music and a steady calendar of events keep the room buzzing without losing its neighborhood charm. The staff is warm, and the pours are generous in spirit.

American Social knows exactly what the people want. It serves strong cocktails to a lively crowd, and its patio is the perfect spot to sit for hours, watching the drawbridge rise and fall — an activity that’s significantly more entertaining with a drink, as opposed to being stuck in traffic. The lengthy cocktail menu keeps things fun. The appropriately named Golden Hour blends prickly pear and orange blossom gin with prosecco for the perfect sunset drink, while the Dipped & Dirty martini fully commits to the bit with sour cream and onion-infused gin, pearl onions and a handful of Lay’s potato chips. Brunch deserves a mention too, especially if your ideal weekend includes passionfruit mimosas and losing track of time near the water.

Founded by sisters Cecilia “Ceci” Alcobe and Regina Alcobe, the beloved café has built a cult following for its creative matcha drinks made with ceremonial-grade tea and naturally sweetened, housemade honey syrups. Signature creations, including the viral “New York Summer Matcha” layered with strawberry jam and pink strawberry cold foam, have become social media stars, while menu mainstays including the Brunei Dirty Matcha and Banana Bread Matcha keep regulars coming back. What started out as a coffee van driving around Miami in 2019 eventually gained enough traction to have a standing spot at both Aventura and Dadeland Malls. In 2025, Naughty Coffee opened its first brick-and-mortar in downtown. After six years of brewing and hustling, these mischievous folks found a forever corner along Second Avenue and First Street. Adding to the magic of the flagship location, Naughty Coffee roasts its own beans in-house and also serves food. In the downtown shop, guests can order pastries, breakfast or lunch bites, including a classic (and perfectly toasted) ham-and-cheese croissant or focaccia mortadella sandwich. While the camper vans still serve coffee in Aventura and Dadeland, downtown is where you go for a truly naughty experience. 

Stock up on some of the tastiest Asian snacks and drinks at iFresh Supermarket. Located in North Miami, this massive market is known for its clean and spacious interior, offering an endless variety of products sourced from different parts of Asia. From fresh produce and authentic pantry staples to red bean mochi, lychee-flavored ramune, instant ramen with several spice levels, and yogurt-flavored soju, iFresh offers a little bit of everything for both adventurous shoppers and those searching for a taste of home. The store also sells Asian glassware, chopsticks, bento boxes and other dining essentials. The aisles are thoughtfully organized and fully stocked, making it easy to browse and discover new items from across different cuisines. With aisle after aisle of international finds, you’re almost guaranteed to leave with a new favorite snack in hand. 

Held every Sunday in the heart of Coral Gables, this market gathers local farmers, bakers, artisans and specialty food vendors in a setting that encourages lingering rather than rushing. Visitors can browse fresh produce, stock up on handmade goods, discover small local businesses and enjoy a leisurely afternoon with coffee beneath the palms. Unlike many markets that require an early wake-up call, Merrick Park’s 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. run-time makes it especially appealing for weekend wanderers. The picturesque surroundings and relaxed atmosphere add to the experience, turning an ordinary shopping trip into a Sunday ritual.

Grove Grocer stays one step ahead of Miami’s ever-growing wellness scene. The mini store sources local goods from Tiny Farm and Paradise Farms (both located in Homestead), and True Loaf Bakery on Miami Beach, plus carefully selected pantry staples from outside the 305. This is the spot to shop sourdough baked down the street, eggs from Miami chickens and house-made guava jam, plus natural wine, flowers and small-batch goods. The store doubles as a cafe, serving coffee, matcha, breakfast, lunch and natural wine on its patio. Whether you’re an ingredient-focused foodie or just want to sit at a picnic table under the tree canopy while drinking a really good matcha (that’s the right color green), Grove Grocer is a new classic in the neighborhood.

Plenty of new players have entered the grocery store wars of South Florida in recent years, with Publix now having to compete with the likes of Trader Joe’s and Aldi. A few factors set the downtown Miami location of Whole Foods apart, mainly its extensive hot and fresh food selection and spacious seating area. The Amazon-owned chain may be known for premium quality, but discounts such as half-price sushi on Fridays and the $7 two-slice pizza deal make it one of the best spots for a quick and economical lunch in the neighborhood. Plus, there’s free parking for customers, which is a serious luxury in downtown. Just try not to think about the Bezos of it all.

Clara Baio, who learned Sicilian baking from her grandparents in Italy, handles the ovens. Antonija Atanasova, a career barista originally from Macedonia, handles the espresso. Together they run a small, focused bakery on a quiet stretch of Buena Vista that feels unassuming until you notice the consistent stream of regulars coming and going. Open Wednesday to Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the operation is tight and unfussy with a lineup of coffee, tea and other drinks alongside a rotating selection of baked goods that change throughout the day. Arrive early for the sourdough cinnamon roll before they sell out, or grab the za’atar egg danish or maple pecan croissant. As the morning moves on, the case shifts toward sandwiches and savory options. Truth be told, it’s hard to miss no matter what you choose. It’s always good to check Instagram stories before you head over to see what’s coming out of the ovens that day.

For more than three decades, Croissan’Time French Bakery has set the standard for French baking in South Florida. The longtime Fort Lauderdale favorite draws daily crowds for buttery croissants, crusty baguettes, elegant pastries and desserts that taste as though they came straight from a Parisian pâtisserie. While the line often stretches through the bakery, it moves quickly thanks to knowledgeable staff who help newcomers navigate the impressive selection of breads, quiches, cakes and sweets. Regulars rave about everything from the chocolate mousse cake to the impossibly good baguettes (which many consider the best they’ve had outside of France). A small but thoughtfully curated market stocked with imported European specialties adds to the experience, making it easy to leave with far more than you planned to buy. 

Most people think of Miami Beach restaurants and imagine tourist traps and expensive fine dining establishments (and Joe’s Stone Crab). For those of us who just want a simple, cheap lunch, this convenience store between the beach and the convention center, a block south of Collins Park, is a lifesaver. There’s a sandwich counter serving up Cubanos and other quick bites, a hot food bar with rice-based dishes, and all the snacks and other conveniences you’d expect from a humble bodega. It’s the perfect place to stock up for a beach picnic or avoid getting gouged by the food vendors at Art Basel. 

This Coral Gables deli and gourmet market has become a neighborhood obsession thanks to sandwiches that regularly sell out. The star of the menu is the Wally, a perfectly balanced stack of oven-roasted turkey, Muenster cheese, fresh vegetables and house-selected condiments layered on exceptional bread, but nearly everything coming out of the kitchen earns similar praise. Owned and operated by chefs Franklin Pichardo and Wally Henriquez, the shop brings classic deli sensibilities to Miami while maintaining a distinctly local feel built around hospitality, craftsmanship and exceptional ingredients. Beyond the sandwiches, shelves stocked with tinned fish, specialty snacks, wines and pantry staples make every visit feel like a discovery. 

Bagel Cove offers omelets, knishes, salads, French toast and matza brei, but the star attraction of the long-time Aventura deli is advertised in the name. The bagels are baked every day, all day, in just about every traditional flavor you can think of. They’ve got poppyseed to pumpernickel, a whole wheat everything bagel and some non-traditional options including oat and rainbow. Since opening in 1988 in a strip a bit south of Aventura Mall, Bagel Cove has been a breakfast and lunch spot with a friendly waitstaff and food that will have you sopping every last morsel. They’re open seven days a week, bright and early from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., but the take-out window stays open daily until 7 p.m. if you want some bagels, hamantaschen or black-and-white cookies to go.

Wanna see a magic trick? Order a tuna foie with seared foie gras, tare and Maldon salt at Osaka in Brickell and watch every other head in the restaurant turn toward your table. Double down with a smoking platter or wagyu chahan or a cocktail that comes glowing in the restaurant’s amber light. Japanese tradition blends with Peruvian flavors at this popular Nikkei concept. Come for the great food, stay for the show.

Ossobuco’s second location feels right at home in Coconut Grove. Chef Guillermo Eleicegui’s menu centers around open-fire cooking and high-quality ingredients without overcomplicating things, letting the flavors from the grill do most of the talking. While the meats are the obvious draw, some of the best dishes live elsewhere on the menu. The burrata with shaved zucchini and sweet mango chutney hits that perfect balance of fresh and indulgent, while the ricotta gnocchi with ragout is pure comfort food in elevated form. The space is polished without being overly formal, making it just as fitting for a hot date night out as it is for a random Wednesday work lunch. The restaurant temporarily closed for repairs but plans to reopen at the end of June.

Pasta e Basta offers an intimate dining space with a focus on handmade pasta. Each plate is carefully crafted, paired with sauces that deliver comfort and depth in every bite. The cozy setting adds to the appeal, making for a personal dining experience amid the area’s bustle. Come hungry and trust the process, because when everything is made in-house, the results speak for themselves.

This 3,200-square-foot outdoor dining area, located across the street from the Frost Museum of Science, features wooden tables, lush foliage and an open pastry kitchen where staff bake sweet and savory treats to the soundtrack of bossa nova and world music. Created by Brazilian entrepreneur Taciana Kalili, Sagrado’s focus on down-to-earth, hearty fare is reflected in a menu that boasts colorful açaí bowls, tapioca creations and avocado toast, as well as scrumptious entrées such as parmigiana and picanha. Coffee is central to the experience and best when paired with sweet Brazilian quindim or carrot cake.

Fort Lauderdale is quickly becoming a culinary powerhouse, and that means lots of new openings in the 954, but Eddy V’s Prime Seafood on Las Olas stands out from the crowd. The steakhouse has an extensive menu with everything from caviar to shellfish towers and wagyu dumplings, plus showstoppers including tableside steak tartare and South African lobster. Inside the historic Plymouth Hotel, Blue Ribbon Sushi Bar & Grill balances polished sophistication with laid-back energy, offering intimate indoor seating and a lush poolside dining experience. The menu spans pristine sashimi, inventive rolls and Japanese charcoal-grilled specialties. The kitchen’s precision shines in the Blue Ribbon roll layered with lobster tail and black caviar, as well as delicate neg toro and expertly grilled entrées.

Mano Libera offers a contemporary take on Italian cuisine. Naples-born chef Marco Giugliano creates a menu built around handmade pasta and vibrant seasonal dishes, served on custom Italian-made tableware. Cozy up with comforting classics including Ragu Napoletano, or Gnocchetti served with Genovese ragu that’s been slow-cooked for 18 hours — or put your taste buds in chef Giugliano’s hands with his special “testing menu.” For $120 per person (with an optional $95 wine pairing), you’ll get a welcome bite, a selection of seasonal appetizers, pasta dishes, a main course meant to share, dessert and piccola pasticceria (tiny Italian pastries). 

The Break House Kitchen and Beach Bar arrived in Deerfield Beach with a prime oceanfront perch, but it’s way more than just a pretty view. Founded by Danielle Rosse of Oceans 234 and operated with her daughter, Kali Williams, the restaurant packs three concepts into one beachside address. Enjoy the all-day counter-service restaurant, grab-and-go café and Deerfield Beach’s first rooftop bar with Atlantic vistas. Culinary director Dean Max brings chef-driven polish to approachable coastal food with an all-day menu that includes tuna poke bowls, truffle grilled cheeses, smash burgers, tacos, ginger-infused guacamole and more. There’s a Thursday run club with routes for runners and walkers, a $12 Burger Night upstairs, a weekday happy hour, a locals rewards program and monthly rooftop brunches with a DJ, bubbly bottle service and doughnut flights. That’s how you plant a flag in the neighborhood.

Mary Lou’s opened in January, and it’s already got reviewers harkening back to the glory days of South Beach. The restaurant and lounge offers bar bites, an extensive cocktail menu and DJ events. The menu has options to fit any palette, from chicken nuggets topped with caviar, to salads, sushi and steak. There’s a whole martini menu, plus cheekily named signature cocktails including the Daddy’s Girl with Tito’s vodka, Bordigo Rosso, Sirene aperitif, watermelon and lime. Named for co-founder Alex Melillo’s grandmother, it’s a playful place that puts sensual fun and fashionable attitude at the center of everything. If it sounds familiar, it’s because Mary-Lou’s has been a favorite in West Palm Beach and Montauk for years, but it’s high time Miami got some sugar.

While there have been incredible leaps in plant-based cuisine at restaurants across flavor profiles and price ranges, many vegans are still all too familiar with French fries and garden salads. That’s what makes the death of Planta such a bummer. This plant-based restaurant was fine dining to the fullest, serving satisfying meals that turned the heads of even the meat-eateningest carnivore. With its welcoming, chic atmosphere, to-die-for culinary innovations and twists on standards (the Planta Burger was a magical side quest), this Miami-based chain, which closed its South Beach, Coconut Grove, West Palm and Fort Lauderdale locations in the aftermath of a 2025 Chapter 11 filing, had a way of making plant-based evangelism really cool. Its menu, ethic and impact will be missed by humans and non-humans alike.

Pizza Tropical’s return feels especially sweet for those still mourning the loss of Gramps, the beloved Wynwood bar that closed in December. For years, this pizza was the perfect pairing to a night out, fueling dance floors and late-night conversations with large slices that earned a cult following. It used to be you could order this ‘za out of a window in the Gramps backyard. Now, Pizza Tropical has its own brick-and-mortar in the Upper East Side. Other than that, the comeback picks up right where things left off, slingin’ pies that hit hard as ever. Some things are too good to stay gone, and thankfully this is one of them.

As the force behind MISHA Culinary Events, private chef Misha Macdonald creates bespoke dining experiences. Each dish balances color, texture and flavor in a way that feels both delicate and striking. His menus shift constantly, built around seasonal ingredients and thoughtful pairings, from seafood crudo and caviar-forward bites to deeply layered and composed plates. The food is elegant without losing its sense of warmth. Whether it is an intimate dinner or a larger event, Chef Misha delivers something that feels personal, polished and unforgettable.

Some bars serve stiff drinks. Arepa Bar serves comfort with a crispy edge. These thick, grilled-then-baked cornmeal beauties arrive golden on the outside, soft and airy on the inside, split open and stuffed like they’ve got secrets to tell. The Reina Pepiada comes lush with avocado chicken salad, while the Pabellón piles in beef, beans, sweet plantains and cheese like the culinary equivalent of a perfect last call decision. The menu doesn’t stop at arepas. There are gooey Tequeños de Nutella, guava-and-cream-cheese tequeños that flirt shamelessly with dessert, buttery cachapas and breakfast-ready Arepa Perico Eggs for mornings that need rescuing. They even stock the beloved Ovomaltina spread for those who know exactly what they came for. At Arepa Bar, every order feels like a little intoxication of its own, no cocktail required.

For more than five decades, Bagel Emporium & Grille has been the go-to deli for University of Miami students, residents and families. The shop moved last year from its longtime location on South Dixie Highway to downtown Coral Gables but still offers the same toasted bagels, matzo ball soup and tuna melts that made the restaurant a staple. The menu is robust, but the New York-style bagels are a true standout. Made in-house daily for the freshest, plumpest, chewiest bite possible, these bagels come in a wide range of flavors, though the multigrain, pumpernickel, and onion bagels are very popular.

People say the best bagels can be found in New York City, and the bagels at New York Marina Deli have brought NYC flavor and texture to Broward residents for decades. In the back of a Fort Lauderdale shopping plaza, this beloved old-school deli turns out warm, perfectly chewy bagels that inspire serious loyalty. Whether piled high with silky Nova lox, paired with eggs and onions, or enjoyed simply with a schmear, every bagel strikes that elusive balance between a crisp exterior and a soft, pillowy interior. Served straight from the oven, its delicious golden crust is the perfect appetizer for any meal. In fact, it kind of steals the spotlight from whatever you actually ordered. Ask nicely, and they might bring you a second basket.

Eddie and Betty Diaz first built a following at Yellow Green Farmers Market where their cinnamon bread became a weekend obsession, then pushed through the pandemic with deliveries and online orders before opening a Plantation storefront in 2024. Now the scent alone does half the marketing. Their signature loaf lands somewhere between bread, cinnamon roll and dessert fever dream. It’s fluffy, gooey, coated in cinnamon sugar and drizzled with homemade cream cheese icing. The shop expanded into pastries, coffee and ice cream, but the main event remains that famous cinnamon bread, sold Wednesday through Sunday until closing or sellout, whichever comes first. The menu also gets playful with limited and special loaves aplenty, proving the Diaz family knows exactly when to behave and when to get wild.

The moment your eyes crack open and your stomach starts making demands, Chug’s Diner is the answer. This beloved Coconut Grove staple takes the classic diner formula, dips it in Cuban-American flavor and serves it back with buttery swagger. From the smell of cafecito floating through the hall to the comforting clatter of plates hitting tables, Chug’s is the kind of place mornings were made for. The menu leans nostalgic without being stuck in the past. The famous cast iron pancake arrives puffed, golden and dramatic enough to stop conversations mid-sentence. Croquetas come perfectly crisp with creamy centers that melt on contact, while pastelitos crackle beneath layers of flaky pastry stuffed with guava, cheese or savory picadillo. There’s the Cuban-American sandwich, a bold remix of the classic Cubano that includes salami and mustard aioli for a taste both familiar and new. Breakfast sandwiches are often overcomplicated in the pursuit of greatness. Ophelia’s proves you need only master the basics. Operating out of a charming, olive-green RV in Coconut Grove, the viral bakery on wheels is home to one of Miami’s most sought-after morning meals thanks to a deceptively simple sandwich built around fluffy scrambled eggs, melty cheddar and flawless execution. Created by award-winning pastry chef Ana De Sa Martins, each component reflects the same attention to detail that earned her acclaim in fine-dining kitchens. The result is a breakfast sandwich that inspires long lines, repeat visits and word-of-mouth praise.

Miami takes its burgers seriously — maybe too seriously with the number of spots opening up left and right — but every once in a while, a spot cuts through the endless debate over who has the crispiest edges or the best sauce. For us, that spot is Cowy Burger. What started as a pop-up by three childhood friends from Venezuela has become one of Miami’s most obsessive burger destinations, with plenty of options for smash-burger connoisseurs. They’re thin enough to get those lacy, crispy sides but still juicy in the middle. The signature Cowy Burger — layered with American cheese, bacon jam, grilled onions and the dangerously addictive Cowy sauce — ruins your ability to enjoy anything less. Wash it down with a staff-favorite cookies-and-cream milkshake, and you’ve got yourself a meal. Try for yourself. There’s a reason there’s usually a line out the door.

As one of the more unassuming food spots in Miami, Bro’s Hot Chicken inhabits a six-table storefront in a shopping center off SW 67th Avenue. What it may lack in size, it makes up for in flavor. The Nashville chicken shop, owned by brothers-in-law David Adan and Randy Morillo, is a homegrown Miami gem. The signature sandwich features pickles, homemade coleslaw and a Bro’s Sauce that is simultaneously sweet, tangy and smoky. Bro’s Hot Chicken currently has one location in Coral Terrace, with plans to open a second location in Sweetwater. From the still-oh-so-flavorful No Spice to the waiver-required Fuego, Bro’s has your chicken sandwich cravings covered.

There are two universally accepted times to enjoy chicken wings: game day or literally whenever you want. Wings are great because they’re versatile. You can dress ‘em up or dress ‘em down, fry ‘em or bake ‘em, crisp ‘em or sauce ‘em. Owned by Chef Amaris Jones, the fast-casual concept known as Chick ‘N Jones has it all. From Lemon Pepper Parmesan baked wings to a Jones ‘N Hot fried wing bucket, this hormone-free, locally sourced eatery in Doral is changing the game. Our best advice is to come hungry — or leave with leftovers.

Baking a chocolate chip cookie is easy. All you need is flour, butter, sugar and chocolate. Still, you have to perfect the combination of these ingredients and master the bake time to create a delicious, perfectly browned, chewy-with-a-crispy-edge cookie, and this is a feat accomplished by few. The man behind Liger’s has reached this pinnacle of cookie-making magic. Liger’s is a one-man operation founded by photographer Julian Cousins in 2020. What started as a passion project turned into a local phenomenon. The legend began when Cousins traveled to Canada and munched on a delicious cookie. When he came home, he tried to find one that lived up to the bite, but failed. So he made his own! Eventually, he graciously shared his cookies with the rest of Miami. Fans can order Liger’s online or find its cookies at Caracas Bakery, Miami Slice, Vecinos, Pari Pari and Pluma. If you think you can emulate a Liger’s cookie at home, don’t waste your time. Instead, pick up some Liger’s cookie dough at Grove Grocer or Franky & Wallys and leave the magic to the professional. 

There’s definitely no shortage of croquetas in the 305, but Sergio’s is a standout in the game. The local institution has served more than 20 million croquetas across South Florida and even broke the Guinness World Record for the world’s longest croqueta in 2021 (apparently, regular-sized success wasn’t enough). The croquetas are exactly what you want them to be. With a crispy outside and creamy inside, they’re impossible to stop eating. The classic ham is the go-to, but the chicken and spinach versions deserve attention, too. At just $1.99 each, ordering a whole box feels practical.

There is a certain utility in having a Cuban sandwich recommendation for your vacationing friends and relatives who don’t want to cross the causeway, but Cubatón is worth the drive. It goes above and beyond with a premium take on the classic Cubano and Medianoche, featuring mojo pork that’s been slow-roasted for 14 hours, and a hardwood-smoked ham that gives even more depth of flavor. Located in the heart of South Beach off Washington Avenue just a block north of Española Way, the small shop also serves local drinks Jupiña and Materva, coffee and breakfast pasteles, and, for adventurous types, a Hot Honey Cubano complete with pickled jalapeños.

Charlie’s Ice Cream has spent the past decade building a devoted following with its famously creamy soft-serve, winning over customers in Hialeah before expanding to a second location in Westchester. What began as a family-run neighborhood ice cream stand has grown into one of South Florida’s most beloved dessert destinations. Charlie’s is known for its chocolate-dipped cones, towering sundaes, nostalgic floats and signature creations including the wildly popular Coconut Waffle, Cookie Monster sundae, and Pistachio Waffle. Despite the crowds that often gather outside both shops, the experience remains refreshingly simple with great ice cream, generous portions and friendly service. The secret isn’t flashy trends or over-the-top presentations. It’s a decade of consistent desserts that keep customers coming back, whether they’re ordering a shake, cookies or a towering soft-serve creation. 

Doña Posada is best known for Venezuelan staples, but the real standout is something you might not expect: bomboloni. These Italian-style doughnuts are deep-fried, sugar-dusted and filled rather than glazed, closer to a rich, pillowy pastry than the typical American donut. A staple in Italy, they remain surprisingly hard to find in Miami and even harder to find done well. At Doña Posada, they started as a weekend special and quickly became a must-order. Each one is soft, airy and generously filled with options including Nutella, pistachio cream, dulce de leche or guava and cheese. They’re never too heavy, never overly sweet and just indulgent enough. While not always available on the daily menu, they are always available through catering. Start planning a party.

In a city where empanadas are as common as sunshine and parking tickets, GogoFresh manages to rise above the fold. From Chicken Thai, to Chicken Criolla and a surprisingly satisfying Vegan Quinoa, the lineup delivers something for everyone without trying too hard. The soups and salads are amazing, too, but let’s be honest, 99 percent of the room is here for the empanadas. Warm, flaky and perfectly crisped, they arrive like little edible payoffs, disappearing faster than you meant them to.

Can you say you really know Miami if you’ve never had a late-night meal at Yambo? The Nicaraguan restaurant is open 24-hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year and each of those seconds you can count on a most excellent serving of gallo pinto (rice and beans that got their name for supposedly looking like a spotted rooster), queso frito (a salty, fried white cheese cooked until it has a crispy exterior while still gooey on the inside), and ensalada (a cabbage salad reminiscent of vinegary cole slaw). There’s also carne asada, maduros, and lengua that have diners lining up in a queue all hours of the day or night. All those flavors are accentuated by the carnival-like ambiance that features a bouillabaisse of ornaments, from a coin-operated pony to a monument of Nicaraguan poet Rubén Darío and a giant (spotless) rooster statue that greets you at the parking lot entrance.

Frozen yogurt is supposed to be a lighter indulgence, but too often it sacrifices flavor in the process. Meli changed that equation. Founded by Deborah and Eduardo Shrem, the charming Miami Shores shop is one of South Florida’s biggest dessert sensations thanks to its creamy, Greek frozen yogurt sweetened with allulose instead of traditional sugar. The result is a treat that satisfies a sweet tooth without the heaviness, especially when topped with creative additions including baklava crunch, guava bites, coconut granola, fresh fruit and pistachio kataifi cream. Long lines have become the norm as customers flock to sample signature creations and customize their own cups. 

Founded by Witmar Jara and located on Coral Way, El Patio 305 is the neighborhood Latin American fusion restaurant you’ve been looking for. The casual joint is known for many things — it’s ajiaco, for one, as well as its whole fried red snapper —  but there’s one special item that deserves a little extra attention. Within the Los Antojos part of the menu, you’ll find a Perro Colombiano built around a mild sausage that’s smothered in mozzarella, garlic sauce, pineapple sauce and potato sticks, all encased in a soft, buttery bun. It’s sweet, savory, crunchy and melty. In a word? It’s perfect.

In 2016, Mike Romeu bought a $50 lime-green ice cream maker at BrandsMart. It sat in a storage unit for a year and a half before he started down the path toward Sweet Melody. Named for his daughter, Romeu started with small-batch scoops in his home kitchen, roping in friends and family as taste testers. Now one of South Florida’s most genuinely beloved homegrown food brands, that family-first spirit is deeply embedded in the ethos. The ice cream is ultra-premium, made American-style using 16 percent butterfat, and every mix-in is made from scratch, down to the all-natural sprinkles. Flavors range from pop culture playful to quintessentially Miami. If you’re a Swiftie, try the Showgirl (Sweet Melody’s Version) made with mint green vanilla ice cream and chunks of homemade orange cake, orange frosting and orange glitter. If you need a taste of home, try Abuela’s Flan with flan ice cream that boasts caramel notes and a chewy custard texture. From a West Kendall production facility to a cult-favorite ventanita, Sweet Melody now boasts multiple Miami-Dade locations and a Fort Lauderdale outpost that opened in 2026. The growth has been steady, but the spirit remains unchanged.

From West Palm all the way to the Florida Keys, one of the most famous SoFlo desserts is the key lime pie. Everyone flaunts their take, but the must-taste of the town is the slice at The Palm. The storied steakhouse opened in 1926 and now has 30 locations worldwide, including Miami’s Bay Harbor Islands neighborhood, and the key lime pie rivals some of the most famous in the state. It’s got that perfect hint of key lime tartness, creamy and sweet but not too sweet. The buttery-flavored crust could stand on its own as a top-notch dessert. Next time you head to The Palm for a steak or lobster, don’t sleep on this dessert.

Apocalypse BBQ’s menu is robust, but the mac and cheese is not an afterthought. To owner Jeffrey Budnechky, great mac and cheese is all about consistency. “You gotta have that nice cheesy, creamy bite all the way through,” he says. Apocalypse delivers exactly that, then takes it a step further with a loaded version topped with chopped brisket bacon for what Budnechky describes as “a little bit of a meaty crunch.” The result is smoky, rich, unapologetically indulgent and arguably one of the best things you can eat in Miami with a plastic fork. 

At Marc’s Artisanal Pizzeria, pizza is not a fast food but a craft shaped by patience, technique and family tradition. Founded by husband-and-wife team Eric and Yeanny, the Miami Beach pizzeria blends influences from New Jersey, the Basque region, Venezuela and Miami. Their philosophy centers on quality, hospitality and creating a place where people sit down, share a meal and stay awhile. The star is the dough. Naturally leavened and given days to develop flavor and texture, each pie delivers a crust that’s crisp where it should be, airy where it matters and has just enough chew and char to keep balance. Toppings are thoughtful rather than excessive, and local sourcing is a major focus. Ingredients come from Florida farms and regional cheese producers, reinforcing the restaurant’s commitment to freshness and craft. 

Zuru is a small local chain with locations throughout South Florida, and the North Miami location sits on Biscayne Boulevard just south of 163rd Street amid a plethora of Asian eateries. With fun, inviting decor inspired by Japanese yokocho restaurant alleys, and J-Pop playing over the speakers, it’s a fine place to stop for a bowl of noodles, offering everything from slow-simmered tonkotsu ramen to dipped tsukemen and more. Be sure to sample the appetizer menu of Japanese street food, including karaage fried chicken topped with jalapeño peppers, and takoyaki (grilled octopus balls) served atop potato salad.

Nine months in, Coconut Grove’s Banh has cemented itself as a neighborhood staple. Aidan Friedson and Phuoc Vo launched their phenomenal take on the Vietnamese classic inside the beloved Books & Books. The sandwich is made with a fresh baguette, pickled carrots and radish, pork and pâté; and it presents a bite filled with complementary textures and flavors to match that old-timey bookstore smell. Friedson, a UM grad and chef, and Vo, a seasoned professional chef, bring something authentic and whole to an environment that was unaware it needed such a sandwich. The bánh mì now sells out regularly, as people go to Books & Books not just for the newest page-turner but for the massive lunch fave. The shop offers other bánh mì variations including soy, chicken and short rib, all of which come served alongside pho broth for dipping. Next time you’re hungry in the Grove, grab a Tolstoy and a banh mi, and be enlightened with prose and taste.

The amount of trendy sushi spots in Miami can be overwhelming, but Omakai stands out with its simple yet elevated approach. Since opening in Wynwood in 2019, the omakase concept has added three locations in Coconut Grove, Doral and Aventura. All four eateries offer the nine-course Omakai Experience with seasonal fish and carefully selected bites. You could also slide in for happy hour, served daily from 3 to 6:30 p.m., for blue crab hand rolls, pristine bluefin tuna nigiri and sake. Either way, the meal feels thoughtful from start to finish and makes the omakase experience less intimidating. While chefs politely decline requests for extra sauce, noting that each dish is already carefully prepared and seasoned, it’s hard to argue with the policy after taking a bite.

For Chef Karla Hoyos, Tacotomía is a direct extension of her upbringing in Catemaco, Veracruz, where she learned to cook alongside her abuelita. That foundation shows up in every part of the experience, from the nixtamalized tortillas to the careful sourcing of ingredients that honor traditional Mexican processes. The tacos themselves are exceptional. Balanced and deeply flavorful, they reflect both technique and memory. Each order comes with three tacos served on white corn tortillas, with fillings including asada, birria, pastor, carnitas, chorizo, Baja fish, campechano, pollo adobado, and vegan-friendly organic mushroom. Featured with a spot at Kaseya Center, Tacotomía has also brought its magic to the Formula 1 Miami Grand Prix, the Miami Open and SoBeWFF’s Tacos & Tequila hosted by Chef Aaron Sánchez. Despite the growth, the core remains unchanged. This is food made with respect, patience and a clear sense of identity.

Inside the opulent world of Los Fuegos (literally “The Fires” in English), flame is not simply a cooking technique but the whole bit. Created by legendary Argentine chef Francis Mallmann, the indoor/outdoor restaurant at the Faena Hotel Miami Beach hones in on traditional South American asado culture with roaring open flames, oak-fired grills, smoking embers and dramatic live-fire cooking. The toasty trend blends into breakfast, lunch and dinner menus with brûléed Key Lime French toast, wood-fired steaks, grilled seafood, roasted vegetables, and signature dishes kissed by smoke and flame. Sundays bring a lavish asado buffet, where endless cuts of fire-roasted meats, vegetables and Argentine specialties channel the spirit of a countryside gathering in Patagonia.

Blending Eastern and Western traditions through the shared ritual of caffeine and crepes, this food truck’s menu moves between indulgent and savory. Sweet French creations include the chocolate hazelnut delight crepe layered with Nutella and fruit, while authentic jianbing — a popular Chinese street-food crepe made with egg, scallions, crispy wonton and sauces — comes packed with savory fillings such as pork belly crunch. Pair your bites with a golden milk turmeric and black pepper latte, or colorful bubble teas adorned with dried flowers and a fortune-cookie message. 

Pulling inspiration from Miami’s cultural tapestry, Slab Daddy blends Nicaraguan fritanga with classic Southern barbeque. The influence speaks through coleslaw, plantain chips, rice and beans, and queso frito served alongside a “Miami-Style” brisket smoked by Ricouz for hours until perfection. Ricouz’s setup includes a food truck and a portable smoker near some picnic tables, allowing customers to drool over the smell until they’re served. While anything off the menu is a hit, we recommend splitting a platter so you can try a bit of everything. Slab Daddy BBQ opens Wednesday through Sunday at 11:30 a.m., but you should get there soon, because it’s only open as long as supplies last.

Most of the best options for Korean food in South Florida exist north of the county line in Broward. Long before eating healthy was a trend, Carrot Express proved nutritious food could be genuinely craveable. Founded by Mario Laufer and expanded with CEO Abraham Chehebar, the Miami-born concept grew from a tiny lunch counter inside a Miami Beach gas station into one of South Florida’s most successful homegrown restaurant brands — even earning a foothold in New York City with a Manhattan location. The secret to its success has always been fresh ingredients, made-from-scratch recipes and a menu that never sacrifices flavor. Signature favorites include the LIV Wrap with chicken breast, quinoa, kale, avocado, jack cheese and basil pesto; the Salmon Buddha Bowl with brown rice or quinoa, cabbage, edamame, corn, broccoli crowns, roasted carrots, scallions and a special Buddha Sauce; and Mario’s Favorite Chicken Bowl with cilantro brown rice, quinoa, arugula, kale, spinach, almonds, peas, raisins and citrus sauce. The menu rounds out with all-day breakfast, açai bowls, smoothies and avocado toasts. As the company expands, Carrot Express remains deeply connected to its Miami roots and committed to wholesome, accessible food. 

Adam Meltzer opened the Daily Creative Food Co. on Biscayne Boulevard in 2006 with three things in mind: well-made meals, hefty portions and reasonable prices. He saw a gap between white-tablecloth restaurants and drive-thrus nobody else bothered to fill. Two decades later, that’s still what they’re serving. Expect overstuffed sandwiches, wraps and paninis built from quality ingredients, soups, salads and hot plates ranging from early breakfast through to late lunch. In a neighborhood that’s reinvented itself several times over since the Daily first opened its doors, the lunch here stays consistent — which, in Miami, is saying something. 

First dates are nerve-wracking. They’re essentially a job interview, but the role is “life partner.” One — or both — come prepared with a laundry list of inquiries: What do you do for work? Do you have any siblings? What’s your favorite color? Why are you still single? You’re going to have plenty of questions to answer, so it’s wise to pick a spot that’s not only delicious (and romantic) but asks only one thing: meat or fish? At San Lorenzo in Little River, they take all the pressure off deciding what to order. Trust the chef and the skilled staff, and they’ll take care of everything. The cuisine is authentically Italian, so think bold flavors and hearty dishes. The concept is a unique, no-menu prix fixe that costs approximately $140 for a party of two — the perfect price for a first date — and includes appetizers, two mains with side dishes, and dessert. The venue itself is dimly lit and romantic inside, with outdoor seating that gives views of a little slice of water. If you want to impress your date, make a reservation at San Lorenzo, and you might be guaranteed a second date — if you pass the first round.

Miami was recently named the most expensive city for dining out in the nation, and there are many restaurants that charge out the nose but fall short of flavor. Karyu earns its $350-per-person wagyu tasting with the quality of its courses and the perfection of its execution — and that’s the price tag before you tack on drinks. This is the only restaurant in the country to serve certified wagyu beef from Ueda Chikusan, a full-cycle cattle ranch in the mountains of Japan, and the three-person staff hails from its Michelin-starred sister restaurant in Tokyo. The 10-seat counter-service showcases its highly prized meat in the traditional kaiseki style, where each course is steeped in Japanese tradition to highlight the star ingredient. The result is both decadent and memorable. Is the Design District eatery appropriate for a last-minute pop-in? Maybe if you’re an oligarch or a tech billionaire. Otherwise, save it for a special occasion — especially when someone else is footing the bill.

Inside the velvet elegance of The Setai, Japón unfolds like an exquisitely staged fantasy. Named one of the World’s Most Beautiful Restaurants by the prestigious Prix Versailles, this decadent Japanese dining destination glows with cinematic allure. An undulating wooden ceiling ripples overhead, Torii gates frame intimate corners and centuries-old Japanese artwork watches quietly as couples lean closer across candlelit tables. The romance deepens outdoors where the courtyard transforms into a sultry, Asian night bazaar. DJs spin beneath the palms while aerialists and contortionists twist above the fountain, turning dinner into spectacle and spectacle into foreplay. Whether tucked into the dimly lit dining room or seated beneath the courtyard’s moss-covered murals and mood lighting, every table feels designed for lingering. Inspired by Mediterranean seaside living, the sprawling alfresco space blends lush greenery, glowing lights and flowing fountains to create a photogenic backdrop that’s chic and breezy. It’s not just a feast for the eyes, though. Dine on French favorites, seafood towers, crudos and handmade pastas, or leave the menu up to the chefs with the prix-fixe lunch and dinner options built around coastal flavors and French techniques.

Perched 40 floors above the city, Sugar’s lush rooftop escape drips in tropical greenery, low-lit seduction and skyline views of Brickell City Center that will have you thinking “maybe overdevelopment has its perks.” To the east, water stretches toward the ocean, shimmering beneath the city lights like Miami showing off after dark. Behind a hand-carved Balinese bar, cocktails arrive bold, smoky and dangerously easy to fall for, while Asian-inspired shared plates invite a little flirting across the table. The menu is refreshingly inclusive too, with vibrant options that appeal to vegans and vegetarians without feeling like an afterthought. Tables may come with a two-hour time limit, but the bar doesn’t believe in rushing chemistry. The DJ sets, warm breeze and glittering skyline are a great way to warm up for a long night on the town.

When it comes to Miami, nothing beats waterfront dining — for which being in the Magic City does provide endless options. Casa Neos is one of the newest restaurants to fill this role, but it also gives diners the best of everything Miami has to offer. In a couple short years, it’s built a reputation as one of the ultimate spots for food and fun in the 305. The Mediterranean cuisine is unparalleled with a robust menu of mezze, appetizers, a raw bar, seafood specials, Mediterranean Maki, fresh fish, paella, meats, pasta and more. If you like fruits de mer, Casa Neos’ signature seafood tower includes lobster, New Caledonian blue prawns, a dozen oysters, scallop carpaccio, tuna tartare, seabass carpaccio, watermelon mignonette and basil calamansi for $185. It only makes sense that, with so much great seafood on the menu, the waterfront view would also celebrate Miami’s best feature. The view is all bay breeze, passing yachts and sparkling skyline.  

This tiny North Miami spot is a no-frills Peruvian restaurant that puts real focus on seafood. Take a seat at one of the 12 counter stools and order the signature ceviche that earned this place Bib Gourmand distinction from the Michelin Guide. The fresh catch of the day is prepared in lime juice with aji limo, red onion and cilantro, served with Peruvian corn and sweet potato bites. It will absolutely be one of the freshest bites you’ve ever tasted.

You’ve wandered out of the clubs on South Beach after a long night of dancing and drinking, and you’re not ready to call it a night. Luckily for you, Azteca South Beach is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This is the perfect spot to refuel with some delicious food and keep the party going with delightful cocktails. If you stumble in before 7 a.m., you can chow down on Azteca’s “famous” street corn or tuna tostadas, or go all in on a combo meal of tacos with plenty of meat and vegetarian varieties. If you’re not feeling Mexican favorites, they have burgers, fried ice and even baby back ribs. Come from 7 a.m. to noon and make the most of the breakfast menu before heading back out to the beach. If you can’t make the party last until the next sunset, it won’t be Azteca’s fault.
