Rockstar Games has delayed the highly anticipated release of Grand Theft Auto VI, originally set to be unveiled this fall, to May 2026.

In a message posted on the Rockstar Games website this week, the development team apologized for the delay, saying it needed extra time "to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve."

"We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game," the company states. "With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception."

Back in December 2023, Rockstar Games dropped the trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI, set in the fictional state of Leonida — a Florida-inspired location that includes Vice City, GTA's take on Miami.

Tom Petty’s "Love Is a Long Road" soundtracked the trailer, which was packed with nods to famous South Florida haunts like Wynwood, the Rickenbacker Causeway, Ocean Drive, Club Space, and the Everglades. It also featured 305 staples like an E11even banner ad, gators, and, of course, Florida Man™.

The game — the eighth main installment in the Grand Theft Auto series, following 2013’s Grand Theft Auto V — is set to launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
