Open House Miami Returns in 2025 to Spotlight City's Design Legacy

Following its successful debut in 2024, Open House Miami (OHMIA), presented by the Miami Center for Architecture & Design in partnership with AIA Miami, has officially announced it will return for a second edition of the public event.

The design and architecture event will take place from February 28 to March 2. It will feature experiential programming that seeks to tell design stories and highlight the architectural thread throughout Greater Miami.

The Open House movement is significant because it opens access and provides education on these topics to anyone interested in learning about them for free. Greater Miami is the fourth U.S. destination, alongside New York City, San Diego, and Chicago, to join the global Open House Worldwide network.

OHMIA will offer more than 100 curated experiences across 20 city neighborhoods. It is supported by 100 partners, including a handful of government groups like the Miami Downtown Development Authority (DDA) and local architectural firms and venues.

The 2025 programming has not yet been announced.

There is an open call for experience suggestions. "Presentations, guided tours, panels, sneak peeks, performances, and other engaging activities are all welcomed," reads the OHMIA website. If you've got an idea, you are welcome to submit it for consideration.

One confirmed highlight on the 2025 agenda is a guided tour of the oolite-drenched Kampong of the National Tropical Botanical Garden, designed by Miami-based architect Max Strang, whose firm was recently recognized by Forbes in the list of Top 200 architects in America. The Kampong is rarely open to the public, so this event will surely draw a crowd.

Additional highlights include exclusive tours of the Kaseya Center, the Museum of Graffiti, the Art of Hip Hop Museum, Istituto Marongoni, and the Frost Museum of Science. Participants will also have the opportunity to take a photo walking tour on Collins Avenue with award-winning artist and graphic designer Laura Paresky Gould, go on a skateboard tour, and take deep dives into Miami's transformative neighborhoods.

OHMIA is a chance to learn about Miami's historic and new developments and how they connect to tell our design story. Education in architecture and design is critical to the city's design legacy and future. What better way to understand the design happening in our city than to get out and experience it with experts to teach us?
