The Van Dyke Café might not be the only place on Lincoln Road for live music, but it sure is the most likely location. After 15 years, the café continues to bring the music down from its second-floor lounge to the street, with its monthly Twilight Series.

This Friday, Kawan DeBose will perform original R&B, soul, and jazz pieces from his new album, Vintage Soul. In DeBose's music, you'll hear odes to his influences, including Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, and Sam Cooke. "I'm influenced by jazz, gospel, and soul music," the young musician says. "You are what you eat." And speaking of what he eats, DeBose recommends the Van Dyke's key lime pie. Does that make him cool?

The Twilight Series is free and starts cooking at 5 p.m.
Fri., Aug. 28, 5 p.m., 2009
